Ok guys I'm totally new to the sport and after reading through this thread it makes me want to take up the sport. I'm about 6'2'' 190lbs and from the various bike shops I've been to they've been pushing a large frame and Specialized/Santa Cruz.

I don't want to drop a lot of coin since this will be my first bike but I don't want to have to upgrade immediately, so I'm trying to find a happy medium. I started checking craigslist and was curious if you could help me pick between the 2 listing below:

    http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/bik/1665564112.html
    http://www.specialized.com/us/en/bc/SBCBkModel.jsp?arc=2004&spid=21114&menuItemId=0

    http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/bik/1653875040.html

They are both Specialized Enduros one is a 2003 the other a 2004.

Is one of them much better than the other or is there a better value out there or should I just buy new?

Most of my riding will be be uphill and downhill but I'm not planning on doing anything too extreme on either end.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

If your going to take it easy save your money and get a regular hard tail bike. A lot cheeper that the full suspention bikes and a little less mantinence. I just bought a cyclocross bike and I love how light it is compared to my hardtail. And with the tall wheel it scoots.

SOOO true. I like my bike but now I wish I had full supension or a hardtail w/fox shocks. BTW if any one is curious I got a Gary Fisher Cobia its a 29er. MY only complaint is that the front brake squeks. I love the lock out featrue for the shocks.

Anyone have any good sites for mountain bike stuff? I have been using pricepoint.com and performancebike.com. I just bought a new set of shoes from pricepoint its there sette brand so I'll have to see how they do. The reviews are great.

Try chain reaction cycles. They are in the UK, but offer free shipping if you get enough stuff.

Ebay is a very good source for parts.

Yeah components are important when buying bikes you can replace them kinda cheap. I have deore xt components off my other bike that I will be putting on the specialized I just bought. Im addicted to buying bikes, I'm picking up a Giant 29er later in the season. The camera is nice, next week I should be riding some single track I'll see if I remember to kick on the camera. I would recommend some pedals and shoes. I have the crank brothers smarty pedals. They are a little weird at first but once you get use to them you will wonder why you ever rode with out them.

Has anyone used the Yakima "Boa" bike rack? I plan on getting it, and installing it on top of my Undercover. I already have a fork support, just need the rear to support the rear tire. What are your opinons? Here is a link.
