I think this is the route I’m going to go as well. Thanks for your reply!

I have a mountain hatch, no issues at all with the construction of it. I used to have a steel replacement and this is nice because it's lighter and a little softer on the knees.

That said, it's stupid. Who the heck wants to use their tailgate as a cutting board? It's dirty as hell. Plus whenever I cook, I pick up the cutting board and use the knife to push whatever into the pan. This, you've got to pick up whatever you cut with your hands. No thanks. I tried it once and it was pretty pointless. I didn't pay anything for the mountain hatch though, so no complaints from me. If I were in the market, I would DIY my own out of 1/8" aluminum. Just remove your factory skin, trace it out onto aluminum and cut out with a jigsaw. Very easy.

I wondered this as well. The idea is circulating in my head to look at rhino lining the panel to give it a little more grip. Would have to be careful not to get it too thick and mess up the fitment though. I don’t have one yet so don’t know how it’s made or if this is possible. I just think I’d rather have a flat, grippy surface than a slick surface.
