Probably wouldn’t trust food on it and you’d probably get blood and shit underneath it if you tried to use it to cut up quarters before loading up the cooler.

You could always just pick up those big ass sportsman’s cutting boards for way cheaper and just lay them on your tailgate when you’re chopping up deer, elk, hookers, etc. Save yourself some cash and still be able to hose rinse your gate when you’re done.

    Staying stock.. maybe
I love mine, saves the knees as everyone has said and has been so helpful to use as a table for camping, tailgating, and projects. Worth the investment if your in and out of your truck bed as much as I am.

No way to justify the price FOR YOU. As others have said, what's expensive and what isn't is subjective. If I made $30K a year I would probably think this is an expensive item. If I made $300K a year? Nope. If I made $3 million? Wouldn't even bat an eye.

IMG_2650.jpg IMG_2649.jpg Installed this on Wednesday and now four days later it is warped. It pulled out a screw and is sticking up enough that I can stick my pinky between it and the tailgate. I sent them an email and we'll see what they have to say. Was happy with it after the initial install but obviously not anymore. Maybe if it was white it wouldn't warp as easily? I'm not sure but only four days sitting in the sun and now this? Not too impressed.

I had the same issue. The OEM screws are too short. Just replace the screws with longer ones.

Yep, replace the bed-edge original screws with longer ones. Read back through the thread for details. IMO though, Mountain Hatch needs to address this and ship screws of the correct length with the product. I bought mine 6 months ago, had this problem, brought it to their attention, and they're still including screws that are too short for the application.

I did not know they shipped any screws at all with this product. Did I miss something?

I have not had any warping two weeks in using the factory bolts from the OEM tailgate panel. In addition I have four D-rings across the top of the tailgate (see my pic on my first post) and on the bottom I glued a tailgate gap seal underneath the mountain hatch because it didn’t look right when I tried having the rubber go over the blue hatch.

My suggestion when installing it, is to make sure to torque all of the bolts evenly. Starting at the top right (tailgate open; near hinge) hand tighten the bolt and move onto the next in a clockwise order, etc. Then upon reaching the starting point, I used the torx head to tighten the bolt until feeling the slightest bit of tension/resistance and then moved onto the next bolt; continuing the pattern. When that was done, did a final pass tightening the bolts up all the way.

The logic behind this is to prevent warping that may occur when tightening each bolt all the way up individually, as this material is not as rigid as a metal panel.

Again that’s a suggestion. Hopefully either that or longer bolts can resolve the issue.

Nope, *I* forgot that no fasteners were shipped with the panel. Duh. It just uses the factory Torx screws, which are not long enough. Mountain Hatch SHOULD include longer screws for that one edge, because the factory stuff is just too short to get a good bite due to the thickness of the panel.

In my experience the problem isn't resolved by how you torque the screws. The panel tends to want to warp when it gets hot, and the factory screws simply pull out because they're not long enough and can't take the strain the material puts on them.

Earlier today as I was removing the fasteners from the front of the bed to Install a tie down rail.
I noticed- These screws would be a perfect substitute for the bottom screws that’s been giving some of us a problem.
    Toyota’s mounting hardware screw part # 90148-A0006.

IDK... perhaps I’m overthinking this. The screws I bought at the hardware store are working. But the lacking OEM look is driving me nuts...
    Cheers

I'm sorry but the thing would need to be 70% off to make sense...just for kicks i called a place (I'm talking central Alberta, Canada) and asked to get a price on a food grade Sanalite, 1/2" thick...white 53" x 19"...$112 Canadian...plus you will need hardware... how can I justify $250+...US...did I mention that I live in Canada , eh

I did a 0.5" X 12" X 48" Black Sunboard Sheet, with 3M Mounting tape (plastic Velcro) to make a flat work surface on the tailgate.

what's the consensus on its strength? stronger than OEM or weaker? i'm looking to replace this but I do haul motorcycles from time to time and the rear tires rest on this. I'm looking to increase strength but also function. Might have to go for the mobtown ribbed for this. I know the ribs increase strength but wasn't sure if this is Thicker or a different material than OEM that might improve strength.
