My chances of running into a crime are a lot less but back in the day when I bought my first pistol and got a concealed carry permit I worked at a mall that had several armed robberies in the parking lot at night and I closed the store alone a lot that year so that got me packing heat just in case.

If you live, or travel in a large metro area, getting robbed happens. I live near a smallish City and know multiple people that have had home invasions. Many that have been robbed at gunpoint, myself included.

And where can we do that?

Pretty sure I’d make the evening news is I was sitting in my 4R practicing drawing in the parking lot of my apartment complex

    Interesting.

Google it. There are plenty of companies that can teach you how to fight with a handgun in and around vehicles.

Really won’t do me much good here in CA as the county I’m in doesn’t issue CCW’s. Give me a few years to high tail it out of here when I transfer and I’ll look into the courses

What about when someone tries to eat your head on the bus? JK, there are many things I envy about your country. The people's attitudes first and foremost.

You can never do too much. I'm happy with my current methods though.

A baby formula box makes a great pistol organizer for the center console storage. It keeps the pistol and back up magazines separate from gloves and rags and what ever else you might keep in there.

Seriously guys, stay away from that knee airbag.

Yes, and that's precisely why I won't judge others' situations.
I live in a rural area near a smallish town, that stuff hardly ever happens here.

Home invasion is another scenario entirely than carrying though.
Homeowner with a shotgun versus a punk with a pistol.
The punk is gonna have to be very very lucky to escape alive.

Everyone I know says that the suddenness at which it happened was startling. If the gun isn't within reach you are screwed. Fortunately I am rural and the dogs let me know anytime a car is at my gate. That gives me time. If you live in town, they could be kicking your door in and have you at gunpoint before you even think about gaining access to a gun in the safe/drawer/closet.

From my LE training, seconds (even fractions of a second) can make a life/death difference... all weapons are carried ready to fire without any additional requirement (outside of a few long guns with manual safety’s). The only exception is a rifle in a helicopter, where we don’t chamber a round until landing is assured and just prior to exiting the helo. Rational is to prevent an Accidental Discharge in flight which could cause a catastrophic issue and multiple losses of life in the aforementioned event.

Additional advantages are; the state or your weapon is always known (fully loaded and ready); an “extra” round in the weapon (one more bullet, just in case); racking a round may sound cool, but it also gives your position away and alerts everyone that a gun is now in play, could even aggravate a contentious situation unnecessarily... just to name a few.

Disadvantages are; greater chance of an AD (I’ve seen a few of those); and perhaps a little of a PITA when you manually empty the chamber (we are required to use a clearing barrel)...

Watch some real life police body cam or dash cam videos involving shootings, and see if you would want to waste time racking a round... most likely not. My perspective in “private citizen” situations carries over, mainly because that is my 30 years of consistent training and experience (too late to retrain me now).

Me too, I'll have enough time. And the shotgun is accessible and ready to go.
    No kids in the house.
I wouldn't want to live in a city.

Agree with this 100%. But with kicking in the front door, they would be history on the first kick. It"s when I'm walking to the car at night, putting a key in the front door at night and other similar vulnerable situations that put me a little on edge.

Did you just use the same hardware that came w/ the Kydex holster, or did you have to get some longer screws?

I think I'll just continue to carry on my person when I drive.

I know others have provided answers and I also wanted to say this. Imagine if you have someone attacking you and pinned you on the ground and you're using one hand to try and block the attacks and you use the other hand to get your gun. Great, now you have your gun but it's going to be a bitch to rack the slide with one hand. Hopefully, this never happens but it is better to be prepared.

I always have one in the chamber and I am comfortable with that.

I make the holster out of some kydex I have and uses screws from the extra that comes with the alien gear holsters and I went to the hardware store to get the threaded posts.
