I have a Snugtop Tonnaeu that I like. What I don't like is the frame that attaches to both sides and the cab end of the bed. I miss having my side tie downs. Is there any way to mount the pistons directly to the side rails without the six foot long piece of metal? Is the side rail strong enough to handle say a one foot long piece of metal with the piston mounted on that? Has anyone done this sort of mod?

The Snug tonneau is mounted to the factory track because it's a composite bed inside instead of steel and wouldn't be strong enough. You can still mount your tie downs if you drill through the Snug aluminum rail at specific locations. The only drawback is that you won't be able to slide your tie downs in the track...but it may still work for you as intended
