Yes, understand. Some counties are much better than others, San Diego is a tough one to get permitted, generally speaking California is far from gun friendly. As long as I can keep mine at home I am happy. I have not ever felt the need to carry based on where I live and travel locally but certainly would be nice if it was an option.

Winch, front hitch, step bars, bed extender, bed step, gull-wing toolbox, tailgate lock, security system, cb radio, etc.
And nearly every one of those roughly 750 CCW permits are issued to retired police officers, current or retired city or state employees, wealthy businessmen, celebrities, licensed investigators, low-profile security guards, and similar. Less than 50 are issued to private individuals, and those often only on a temporary basis (for personal protection during a clear, immediate, threat, etc).

So, as Crom & Tyler said, it is virtually impossible, for all practical purposes, to get a CCW permit in San Diego County - and far too much of the rest of the state, for that matter (shouldn't have to give a reason - my general protection in the face of wide-spread crime should be enough).

Of course, given the homicide rates throughout California, it's bloody obvious a great many (the criminals) are indeed carrying concealed weapons. The gun laws only prevent the law-abiding citizens, who obey those gun laws, from shooting back - unless you're one of those priviledged few mentioned above whose very existence in this world is evidently considered (by some unknown who makes these decisions) to be worthwhile.

I think we're on the verge of derailing the OP's thread with the discussion about CCW... My last comment on this subject (and in this thread) is that we're on the verge in the next 1-2 years of having the U.S. Supreme Court hear a right-to-carry case. And when that happens, I predict that all American's will have the right to carry.

..the OP is in Florida, ...why on god's green earth would you want to move from a state w/ 0% income tax, and shall issue CCW (i.e. a RTKBA), ...to a state w/ high taxes, high "rent", welcome mats for illegals, and is well on it's way to bankrupcy to boot?...

How about the fact that you can have breakfast on the beach, lunch in the mountains/snow & dinner in the desert, not going to happen in the muggy swamp that is Florida or your state of.....what is it ? Ohio ? Is there even a mountain in Ohio ??

...i've been many places in CA, ...it is a very diverse and beautiful state, w/out question... i've skiied in the sierras, traveled through the deserts, and been to an L.A. county beach a time or two, monterey bay, hearst castle, and yes even a short visit to san diego...

...although i'd put florida's beaches up against CA's beaches any day... :D

...unfortunately, the way the state is governed, is a disaster, and far too unfriendly to liberties that folks in flyover country hold dear... that and it is going bankrupt and driving folks out of the state in search of jobs and cheaper cost of living, etc... (those that can sell their homes...)... so, i'd take the humidity, rain, snow, whatever, plus the freedoms here, over living in CA w/out question...

P.S. we have some rugged hills, you might call small mountains (appalachian plateau), in some parts of OH... ;)

    FAR from the only county.

The Sheriff that took over Orange County is not issuing, and it not renewing existing as they come up.
San Diego is another extremely difficult county.
Imperial county is also impossible... Sheriff is quite proud of the fact that there are only something like 400 permits in Imperial.

And we won't even get into the bay area.

Numerically by county, as well as by land-area, the majority of CA is virtually shall-issue, but it's tough in the coastal areas.

Ya, but as someone who loves riding his motorcycles through the twisties, there's just something about a "twisty" ride that comes down to:

    Ride 200 miles, turn left.
    Ride 20 miles, turn left.
    Ride 200 miles, turn left.
    Ride 50 miles, turn left.
