I can move the carrier bearing center where the driveshaft goes through it up and down some. How much play is normal?

Does it vibrate when you drive or slow down? If so, it should be changed.

My truck does the exact same thing I notice a little Vibration I guess more of a lugging when I slow down sometimes. Does that indicate the bearing needs to be changed? then do I have to get it rebalanced.

This, it has a rubber bushing in it and its supposed to move some but if you have vibration then it's probably time to replace it.

Here's a solid carrier if you want to go that route.

DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT, go with a solid carrier on a prerunner... they do not have the rear slip joint like the 4x4's (they use the slip yoke at the front u joint) to account for driveline extension / collapse and having the solid center would HORRIBLY bind up the suspension and break a lot of things.
