I bought my Mother's 94 Crown Vic when she went into an assisted care facility. Had to have the transmission rebuilt at 74,000 miles, and then it started to fail AGAIN less then 2 years later. Thankfully, the car got t-boned by a Nissan Pickup, and i got more for totaling it then I could have EVER sold it for.

Lol that looks more related to the older explorer trucks than it does to a ranger.

Actually, the grille itself isn't all THAT big. it's the black section on the bumper that makes it look so overwrought.

Sorry, but $200 a month buys you a $10,000 vehicle. No Ranger was ever that cheap, unless we are talking about those loss leaders the dealership advertises to get you in the door so they can up sell you. Bottom line, it's still a Ford. I'll keep my Toyota, thanks.

I just love when people speak purely to their own experiences and assume that is the way the world is and has always been. You are very wrong buddy - Every single truck was available at 10k or less when I was growing up. Hell the base models w/ a glorious 22r were only $7999 Toy, Mazda, Isuzu, Chevy, GMC, Ford all of them could be had for under 10k any day any time. That is why mini trucks were so popular in those days, they were cheap base models which left you a ton of play money for mods. Small trucks did not turn into overly fancy bullshit car interiors with too many options and a bed on the back until the 2000's. Up until then you could walk into any dealer anywhere anytime and buy a base model under 10k.

You could buy a base model for $8k take it home strip it to the frame, build a 4 link, notch it, slam it or lift it, send the frame off to powder coat, do a full color change paint job, convertible top, wheels, stereo, interior, a little motor work etc etc and still be under 20k. Trucks have gone up in price at a rate that far exceeds wage inflation over the past 15-20 years and now people are saddled with truck payments that prevent them from having as much fun.

Every one of these trucks was a sub 10k base model :

Sorry, but i spent damn near ten years in automotive sales/finance. I apologize that I'm not as old as you are, apparently, and remember when trucks cost $7000. Do you also remember when bread was a nickel? How about when gasoline was $0.50/gal? Yeah. Not me.

My wife bought a 1992 Toyota pickup brand new for $8995. The trucks were a lot more basic back then but I think the quality was better.

I don't believe the quality was necessarily better back then, there just wasn't the need for all of these government mandated electronic gizmos. Now everything has a sensor, everything has a back up camera and Bluetooth, and there's airbags on every corner. All to keep us "safe". This also doubles the price. It's no longer just a frame, an engine, a manual transmission, and a couple of seats.

Yeah, in 1992 I was more concerned with my skateboard than a truck, or what it cost. That is crazy, though.

The reason I think the quality was better is because back then they didn't have frame rust issues and they didn't have leaf springs breaking in half. These are simple issues that any manufacturer should be able to handle. My dad has a 1982 4x4 Toyota with no frame rust at all.

The 2016 Tacoma Pro has refocused my appreciation and desire for a new Tacoma. But... with the new Jeep truck coming out and probably the return of the Ranger, I'm really looking forward to truck shopping in a couple years. Of course I'll almost certainly end up with the Tacoma Pro, but it's nice to have some variety... and you never know what could happen.

We live in SC, nobody has rust issues on anything. This is why you never by a classic car from the north, if it's still on the road odds are it's covered in rust.

My Tacoma is more American than my ford ranger ever was.
