After your recommendation, I read a little bit about the plot and cast. "Nice Guys" was directed by Shane Black, who wrote the 1987 action movie hit Lethal Weapon, and made his directorial debut with the film Kiss Kiss Bang Bang in 2005. His acting credits include appearing in the original Predator film, for which he is currently set to write and direct in the next installment. In 2013, he co-wrote and directed Iron Man 3, so this will be on my bucket list too. Thanks for the review!

haha, no worries. To be honest, I hardly ever go to the movies anymore (I do watch a lot of them on Prime/Netflix though), so when my dad wanted to go see this one I decided to go along, not having even heard anything about it let alone who directed it or what his credentials were. 10 minutes in I was hooked. The style of humor was right up my alley. Smartly dumb, witty and sarcastic, playfully serious...and filmed really well. It really is worth paying to see, and I don't say that about a lot of movies.

Not to mention, anytime I picture Russell Crowe, I think of him as the dude from Gladiator (I know I know, that was like 15 years ago). So seeing him play the fat, sleazy, washed up under-the-table private eye in this movie was hilarious in and of itself :D

I agree and were my thoughts exactly when I read he was part of the cast, just not the usual role you picture him cast as. Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling working off each other sound like it would be an interesting combo too.

I'm jealous that I can't do the same with my father, as his is no longer here, so it was cool that you got to experience a great comedy with your dad. Hope you do something special for him this father's day, while he is still there for you to appreciate.

Yup, very underrated but funny as hell.

I was watching The Man With The Iron Fists a year or two or three (when it was in theaters) and was wondering who that fat guy that looks like Russell Crowe was the entire time. It turned out to be Russell Crowe.

After watching Noah, I don't seek out movies starring Russell Crowe.

I've been meaning to watch this one as even the cover on Netflix looks creepy. I watched a trailer (not sure which one) where a voice kept saying "Give me the boy...Give me the boy..." that freaked me out. I got goosebumps just typing that.

Life Aquatic is great. Wes Anderson movies always crack me up..well almost always. He has some duds...

Generation Kill the HBO series? I liked that one too. Never finished Band of Brothers and The Pacific was just OK. Generation Kill was hands down the best...

Inception is a sneaky top 10 movie. When I have to take long flights I always put that one on my phone to watch in the plane. So good...

But, I'm a sucker for Leo. I think my fave of his is Blood Diamond. Love that movie...

I find it difficult to pick top 10 movies as any list I make will change with my mood. May want to watch sports movies/shows one day and sci fi another. Horror flicks are among my least favorite genre, although I did watch and enjoyed Poltergeist when it came out. Also saw The Brood when I was in HS and it freaked me out.

Some of the recent flicks appearing on TV that I don't mind watching from whatever point in the movie: Intersteller; the Martian (2015); Jack Reacher; Star Trek (2009); Prometheus; any Bourne movie; any Mad Max movie; The Princess Bride; Predator (1987); Predators (2010); Hellboy I & II.

Other favorites, that haven't been mentioned: virtually all Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino movies; The Professional; The Terminator; The Matrix (1999); Red (2010); Red 2; The Hunt for Red October; Enemy at the Gates; The Gods Must be Crazy; The Pianist; Rocky; The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly; Bullitt; Dirty Harry; (I can go on ...)

On cable/PPV: Mozart in the Jungle (Amazon); Six Feet Under (HBO via Amazon); Daredevil (Netflix); Alpha House (Amazon); True Detective (HBO).

Six Feet Under lost my attention about 6-8 episodes in. I hated the sister so much I couldn't stand watching. A lot of shows have an actress that I can't stand and it ruins the show for me. Breaking Bad was one that I was able to power through though. The Wife was awful, just plain awful. I would cringe during her scenes. Great show though...

I'm on season 2 of Daredevil. Hated season 1 (but did watch it all). 4 eps in to season 2 and love it.

Started Alpha House with my wife but we lost interest pretty quick...

Loved season 1 of True Detective. Watched all of season 2 but it wasn't nearly as good. Had some great eps though...

Anyone watch House of Lies on showtime, with Don Cheadle? I think it is really good and just plain funny. Watched the most recent episode last night and it previewed next week as 'the series finale.' I'm kind of sad about it, didn't know it was ending :pout:

It helps me to power through shows with a character I don't care for if it's reasonable to think they'll die a fantastic death.
