I am also in the EH&S industry, it is cool to see someone else doing that same thing as me, however it’s only been a year, still a lot to learn!

I work for a construction material business. We manufacture and fabricate material for residential and commercial foundation work. We mainly manufacture rebar and post-tension cables.

California cost of living expensive? Yes. Great weather all year round? Yes. Good food? Yes. Endless of outdoor opportunities? Yes. Can you save more money for vacation and other things if you were not in California? Probably Yes.

In my opinion, living in a place that makes you happy is better than living in a place that makes you unhappy but let's you go on vacation a few weeks out of the year or let's you afford more things. The day to day grind is much easier and less stressful if you enjoy your living situation and external things won't give you that.

Whatever makes you happy is the right choice.

I will tell you this- I ride dirt bikes, camp, hike and go boating religiously. Texas has all those options. The drive is a little bit further to remote camp, but well worth it.

As I like to tell people; I wouldn't wipe my ass with a map of Dallas. :D

It's easy to get homesick here. Southern California is really unlike anywhere else in the world, which is both good and bad.

Property taxes make it pretty much come out in the wash.
