I have some Cooper Discoverer S/T Maxx on 17x9" wheels on my taco and they are very near the end of their life. I noticed that they did not seem to offer the best traction in winter conditions and I find myself wheeling less and using the truck to get to trailheads or access camping off the beaten path these days.

I'm looking at BFG KO2s, but if I want to go to 275/70/17s I'd need new wheels. I wanted to go 1 size down with the hopes of reducing the harshness of the ride and, hopefully, a slightly better experience in winter conditions.

Is all of this fuss going to even be noticeable or should I just stick with another 285/70 tire? I do have 5 wheels and tires, so it is even more costly to change at this point.
