Amazon sells boxes that you can label and put on shelves. I used those for small things, and we cling wrap them when they get moved. Things get stacked on pallets and then wrapped, all by section to used or however.

I will see is I have a pic of our shop that I run and you can see some of the way we organize and move stuff.

Measure what you have for shelving, cabinets, need to buy, etc. Lay out & caulk on the floor where everything will fit/ be set up at new place. This is the time to reorganize, figure out work areas.

OK coming up on 2 weeks since last update. I must say the shop is taking shape!

Easily filled 6 milk crates, so I ordered MORE. 12 more. Those are working nicely! I have a bunch more tool bags and boxes, that stuff in so nicely put away (temporarily) it is GTG.

The best news, the wife is engaged!! Hahahahahaha I have engaged her the wily way.................quote: "Paul I am liking this new side of you....this organization is GREAT" So I've FINALLY got her digging through all shi...........stuff.........from her parents that just went in bins and dragged out and left in my/the shop.........awesome really.

I almost want to wait to take pictures but I even thoroughly vacuumed the carpet runners.

Bottom line: Moving doesn't even seem scary right now.

Dang, 1.5 months and dozens of milk crates later, I have a FIRE UNDER MY ASS

We found a place..........and we are buying said place and yes SIR it has a nice large stand alone shop! Pretty unused. No benches or shelves. New and insulated.

Due to close April 15, so not so bad and exciting at the same time. Mostly the place is organized. Let the hauling begin!

I have to move my shop soon as well.

And into a considerably smaller space at least for a year or so.

Time to throw a lot of "might be someday useful" stuff away.

Biggest lesson I have learned is flat surfaces accumulate bullshit.

And it sucks when you have a bad accident and then only have the endurance to do what's needed leaving you beat to the point of not wanting to clean up and reorganize after working. Especially when it's hot.

A little embarrassed to be honest but this is the aftermath of about a hundred different little projects and such.

All this and more has to go either into a 1 car garage, sold, junked, or hauled to my uncle's pole barn 150 miles away.

Parsing down though I think will be cathartic.

Yes, certainly I know about flat surfaces. The good news is your stuff can be nicely containerized. Get more of those bins and bunch more milk crates. I am only telling you, if it's even two years, don't chuck any tools. It will break the bank replacing stuff and you will be pissed to boot.

    Good luck and God speed.

Catch is plastic will degrade and get brittle over time. I had hundreds of bags.

I had gotten plastic bins with the idea of the fastenal trays (perferated sheet metal, plastic bin holds items).

    Or get something like this:
    https://www.fastenal.com/products/details/0502434

I'm working on clearing my shop. Ya, we need to downsize I should get rid of big power machines before they remove fingers or hands. Buddy had gotten his arm caught up in his metal lathe, fully understand what happened. He is looking at two years of physical therapy and rehab. About six surgeries getting all the tendons reattached. Getting old sucks.

Most of my stuff I've cleared out via eBay. Excellent tools, but often get 20c on the dollar. Keeping what I can to use and pass to my kids, but many of my aircraft-specific items they have no use for. The milling machine comes in handy but at 4000 pounds, not something to toss in the back of a pickup and move.

At least one item sprouted wings and flew away!

The cool suggestions about milk crates and bins really got me going. I mean frankly it got me hating cardboard boxes with a passion! So this move will be plastic totes, plastic file boxes with clamped lids, milk crates, flex totes bags (clothes, blankets, towels, pillows, etc). Maybe just a few cardboard boxes.

Status: Lots of stuff organized and packed, have given away or sold some furniture. More to go.
