Mine weight near 6000lb, has 500hp and averages 15mpg. I say that is not too bad. Keep it under 60mph and it gets 17mpg all day.

Another thing, seems Toyota marketed the new gen Tundra more toward the "bro" community (for lack of a better term) rather than those with a utilitarian purpose (arguably the Tacoma market in a wide sense). And what I mean by that is, younger guys that are going to immediately throw a lift, 52" LED bar, backrack, and 33's on it. Yet they will never leave the pavement and probably drive 85mph on the interstate.

    Thats just my observation.

Lots of comments on this. I was getting 17 mixed driving in my 2010 Taco with 265/75R16 tires on it. I’m getting 16.5 mixed driving in my Tundra with the TRD stock tires on it (270/65R18). Maybe the new smaller Gen 3 engines are more efficient, but anyone going from a Gen 2 Tacoma to a Tundra isn’t going to notice much difference unless they throw on huge or heavy tires. Also, I have a 39 gallon tank and went from about a 300 mile range to about a 600 mile range. It’s really nice to need to fill up half as often.

UPDATE: I see I have caused a bit of a discussion on here - many things were mentioned - and some were even helpful . There are some people on here that get offended or annoyed if you even mention that the vehicle might be less than what they personally feel it is. I didn't mean for this to be personal, but apparently it was headed in that direction by a few people. If you like the vehicle, I am not saying you are wrong and quite honestly, I wish I could like it as much as some of the people say they do.
After test driving the Tundra for a day and literally watching the gas gauge go down after each acceleration, it was apparent that I couldnt afford the Tundra due to the gas cost alone. It was a nice drive and powerful truck. I really like the Tacoma except for the shifting, but I think I will stick with it in hopes that the OV tune will work for me. If not, I'll just put my foot through the floor board to accelerate and call it good. I test drove the Tundra, Highlander, and Forerunner as possible replacements. I know these are all different animals, but the dealership was only willing to trade me even up with another Toyota model on his lot - and they were willing to absorb the sales tax. At the end of the day, I learned that there were many features about the Tacoma that I really like in comparison to the others.

I certainly don't speak for everyone, but I think a lot of us TW members get annoyed by these posts, as they've been talked about ad nauseam. To me, it's just as annoying as posts asking what the largest tire you can fit.

Instead of asking people their opinion on trading for a Tundra and asking the pros and cons, why not use the search function. I'm sure you would have found more than a post or two.

I personally don't have an issue with my truck's shifting, especially after the latest transmission TSB. However, I've read that plenty of people have had issue with it. Maybe it's bad transmissions or bad expectations. Regardless of which, posts like this dont add anything to the conversation. It's been beaten to death.

    :deadhorse:

Good luck with whatever you do. No matter what you choose, there will be concessions, you just have to pick the vehicle that you concede the least for.

If you’re “annoyed” by post which seem negative then don’t post your thoughts on them... it’s a forum which encourages people to post its how they make money.

I'm sure it has been suggested but I say go for a manual. I got one and I'm really happy with it. Makes the truck, in my opinion, more fun to drive and row through the gears, and also, dont have to worry about any shifting issues, shift whenever you want :) I just think overall, most automatics, unless its some high end sports car, have shifting issues. I had a Q50 before the Taco and the auto was always confused what it wanted to do. So I said screw all that and just went with a manual. Also, not sure where you live, but a big truck might not be as easy to get around as you think. I had a F150 few years ago and parking, tight spots, uturns, and more, really got anoying after a while.

Couldn’t agree more. I test drove an 18 sr5 for shits and giggles. Ultimately, decided I really wanted one and bought my OR a couple days later. No regrets so far and doubt I will find any. Someone once told me something that stuck. More people are willing to leave a negative reveiw then a positive one.

He has every right to post whatever he wants... not arguing that. He was remarking on how everyone was "heated" because he provided a negative opinion. I was offering an explanation to him, for why everyone came off as defensive and "heated"

Also, I'm no authority, but I don't think this website makes money off of your or anyone else's posts. What would make them money? There's no ads and no membership fees. At least I haven't paid mine yet.

So is the thread title changing to "Once Moved" from "Moving"
I have a Tundra also. Gas and size (in some ways) are the negatives.
Both trucks have their purpose, pros and cons.

I don't see how it is something more that can break? It's a button with a wire to it as opposed to an ignition switch with a wire to it. Unless you mean the fob and sensors? I think most modern vehicles that still use a key, also have the same feature. You cant just go to home depot and make a copy and have it start the vehicle. The keys are chipped and use the same sensors to sense the key

Google it and I think you will easily see your risks and associated costs incurred.
    It's a gimmick/convenience. No advantage.
