Thanks for your input. . .does yours have a point after 3rd gear where it labors and does nothing? It seems like the shift from 3rd to 4th is too soon - in fact, it wants to shift up way too soon in general for me UNLESS my foot is into the accelerator all the time.

It does shift at different times depending on throttle input. But that's what it should do. Under normal acceleration like when in traffic it does shift to 4th sooner than under harder acceleration but I've never thought it was too soon. Never labors in 3rd or shifts to 4th only to lug. After the flash I think it's a bit quicker to downshift if I give it a bit more gas. Or to put it a different way, it takes less pedal to get it to downshift. Before and after the flash it shifts to 5th and 6th at lower speeds too if I stop accelerating. Usually around 45mph. For me, that's fine. Helps save gas. If I'm still accelerating, even not hard, it doesn't shift until much higher speeds like 65mph.

Overall, while it's hard to give a good description of what it does, the takeaway is that it drives fine and I don't have any complaints. And this is my first truck and I tended to drive my 6 cyl outback somewhat aggressive at times. The taco definitely isn't as peppy as the outback but it's heavier. After the break in it's not too far off though.

If I was going to look at full-size trucks again I'd get the F-150 I was looking at (XLT x-cab 2.7EB 4x4) before I decided on another Taco. I really liked that truck on the test-drive and it had the 36gal tank.

Well, ford ranger is coming to the states this next year.
EDIT: And apparently Europe is getting a Ranger Raptor version lol I don't know sounds pretty fun though!

Personally if I was spending 50k on a new 'truck' I'd get the limited 4runner

I really question these guys' testing methodology, I know they do it at altitude which will have some effect but I really wonder if they also aren't being fully honest because there times are SLOW.

Many publications have tested the Tundra at a 6 second flat 0-60 which is comparable to a BMW 328i, certainly not "slow" especially for a truck.

Ever driven the 5.7? its snappy as shit off the line, the Raptor BARELY beats it out in the 1/4 mile tests. Both trucks are pretty damn quick... for trucks.

I'm not one to mag race. But the Tundra is more comparable to regular F150's, not the Raptor. All the numbers I've seen are in the 14's, and one high 13's for the Raptor. Haven't seen the Tundra come even close to that.

I'm not bagging on the 5.7, because it's a good engine (just thirsty), and probably much more reliable than a HO 3.5TT. But a more powerful engine in a lighter truck? Sorry, there is no "barely" anything.

Yeah looked them up raptor is quite a bit quicker than I remember I thought it was high 14s and low 6s which is right where the tundra is.

Nonetheless I think its ignorant to call a full size truck with a sub 15 second 1/4 mile "slow", which the Tundra seems to regularly be tested as being capable of. The Raptor being <14 seconds is down right QUICK.
