They will take care of it but still my vote is sell. Just isn’t worth it and if it pays if debt then that’s less you have to deal with

    .
Sell it at a good price ... save 3/4 of present payments for the next one and free up 1/4 for your increased cash flow ... and ... you will avoid extra depreciation and maintenance storage problems ... even with the military paying for the storage.

My friend, as much as we love our trucks, i would sell, as the newer ones will have stuff that you will love, i am about to sell mine and get new but i read they are coming with apple radio and power seats in december so i hold. Thanks for your service, be safe.

I'd also like to add that all the people making it seem like you have the 2nd gen holy grail of a truck so you should keep it... you guys sound like the 1st gen guys did ten years ago.

I say sell, then come back and maybe buy new if you saved enough money and can't find a second gen you like. As much as I love my second gen, the third gen is obviously a great truck as well.

If you owned it I’d say keep it. But paying off debt is important. You don’t want to have that looming over you while you are working your butt off somewhere else. Free up that cash flow and stop paying interest to a bank on a car that isn’t in use.

Plus, it’s only going down in value.

If you can financially afford to keep it, I would. The chances of finding a Tacoma in good of a shape like yours after you come back will be very tough!

20 grand in the hole? I'd sell it if you're not able to drive it for several years. It's a nice truck for sure, but paying off your debt and saving all that COLA is worth more than a truck in the end.

    It's complicated.
It will be worth more now, than in a few years. Plus, you get out of debt NOW.

    Sell.

I'll explain the military keeping it ver family if you want to hear it. I pulled you guys and gals vehicles with Pasha for 5 years. Your car or truck is kept in a nice warehouse, covered, and gas additive added to it. They crank it up every month to make sure its running. They actually do a really good job of taking care of your units. You know your family. Would you trust them with it.
If you want to keep it i'd do the Pasha thing. Let the govn take care of your toy. You won't be gone forever. If and lord knows none of us hope so, if something does happen to you they get it to your family. Its called a bluebird run. I've delivered units like that before. I run a 80 foot car hauler.
you know where you are in life and only you knows if you can trust your family but your unit as we call them (car or truck) will be taken care of if you let the govn handle this part of your choice.
    Hope that helps.

    Korea or Japan?

I was in this same situation 15 months ago with my Raptor. Way to big for Korea and ended up selecting the private storage option and had the government pay for it. My parents take care of it and the USAF foots the bill.

Ended up buying a reg cab 2wd 2nd gen for Korea and even this is too big sometimes. Tacoma’s are everywhere and are a dime a dozen. Clean 1st gen raptors are not. My raptor will be paid off when I return to the states next year.

Sell the truck and pay off your debt.

Another element to consider when looking at cash flow improvement - you won't have to insure it. Even though the truck will be parked, the bank holding the loan will typically require full coverage (comp & collision). By selling, not only will you eliminate the loan payment but the insurance cost as well.

Assuming this is just a PCS move and not a short deployment, sell it. Buy a cheap shitbox or something(or use public trans) while you're there, get out of debt, and save some money for when you get back CONUS.

Sell it. If you were going to be gone for 6 months, that'd be different, but letting it sit and depreciate for several years is crazy. I realize this is a Tacoma forum, but we need to be realistic- it's not a classic Ferrari that can't be easily replaced in a few days or a week once you get back. Again, pay off your debts instead of letting it sit and depreciate in value while you're gone.

Sell it to me, I'll most likely still have it when you return. I'll even sell it back to you at reasonable price.

The amount of interest you’ll accrue on your debt is going to be significantly more than the appreciation on the truck (the truck will depreciate)

Over the long run you come out ahead by selling it paying the debt and buying another when you come back.

Not to mention any insurance premiums and registration fees/penalties
