I know you are asking about registration fees, note that property taxes are pretty expensive in Texas depending on where you live.

Edit for clarification: By property tax I mean real estate aka your home

Re: Texas Only business vehicles have an annual property tax. Personal vehicles are not taxed as such. For my new Tacoma, personal truck, Sales tax when you buy it- 6.25 % on the balance value after trade value deducted from purchase price plus a bunch of paperwork handling fees. My total taxes/registration/licensing fees were $1,643 on a taxable value of $24,000. You don't have to get a new car inspected again until the beginning of the third year of ownership an annual inspection fee of $25, annual license and registration fee of $75.25. Insurance if you are over 25 and have a good record is as reasonable as any other state.

Lol...I’m not a native Californian so I’m somewhat normal. You guys got hammered in Idaho with people fleeing this state.

Damn! I’m going to be in Spokane so I hope it’s better there than Seattle.

if moving into WA then beware this:
"Pickup trucks with a load capacity greater than 1500 pounds, recreational vehicles, watercraft and trailers do not qualify for this exemption."

i checked it out before buying since i was thinking of moving from OR to WA and i just squeaked under to avoid "use tax" with my 2018 access cab.
WA tax experts were not much help, had to do lots of homework to understand...but i got there. i forget all the numbers now but i think use tax was about 10% of FMV
at the time you move to WA.

No prob. You would think you could call DMV/DOL and they would tell if your VIN pays "use tax" or not, but i could not get them to give me an answer.
I talked to and emailed analysts in DOL and they were generally useless and i got trickled up to a very senior guy and
he was mystified. Hmmmm.... the biggest problem was the definition of 1500 lbs "load capacity". I would have to look it up how finally got it defined,
ie. passengers or not etc., but i forget now. It was over 2 yrs ago but i have it around here somewhere. When I went to the dealer lot, by my calculation, some 2018 configurations escaped
the "use tax" and some didn't. IIRC, not positive right now, MT access cab did not escape but AT did. So screwed up.
And this does not mean I would not have to do battle when registering...but I could make a pretty good case and would fight to save $3000...not sure it will happen now (the move) but i did my homework.
They get their money one way or the other...and mistakes will be made...just not with my money.
    Good luck.

yep, unfortunately here in AZ its based off of vehicle value.
my '16 cost me close to $300 to renew recently.
From the MVD page "A vehicle license tax is included as part of the annual fee to register your vehicle. It is based on an assessed value of 60 percent of the manufacturer’s base retail price reduced by 16.25 percent for each year since the vehicle was first registered in Arizona (15% before 8-1-98). From there, the rate is calculated based on the assessed value. $2.80 per $100 of assessed value for new vehicles and $2.89 per $100 for used vehicles."
the $32 public safety fee should be gone for 2021. They slipped that shit in under the radar and caught a lot of hell for it.

The little that I’ve looked into it so far the process seems way more complicated than it needs to be which doesn’t surprise me at all. I’ll find out for sure in September.

Thank you for all the input. I am just trying to budget what it’s going to cost to register both vehicles we have when we move.

To register in Maine for my 19 this year was $660. I’d even take California rates over this! Maybe someday though because our governor is turning this state into a hodgepodge off California/New York/Mass..
