Oh nope. No thanks.

 

We looked all over in Scottsdale. Even the "affordable" areas are too much for what you get. We ended up in Fountain Hills with Sherriff Joe and his boys. After looking around, we got more for the same $$ out here. and we are 5 miles from 87, that goes everywhere, and nowhere at the same time. At 55, I'm the young guy in town, but there is zero crime, zero traffic, and tons of wilderness. I see bobcats almost every day now that it's cooler... coyotes are pretty common too. Though smell the javelina's, I rarely see them. Even got our first scorpion in the house last weekend!

 

And now fountain hills is super expensive. I was looking at houses out there and just about everything for sale was in the 400's and up.

 

Pricing compared to Scottsdale for sure... but so much more for the $$$. Place next to me just closed at 363 2 weeks ago. 75K less than asking. Things are still selling way below market, lots of inventory!

I would go to mesa then. Plenty of nice neighborhoods just on the other side of the 101 from tempe. There are some nasty spots just like any city but the prices are much lower than tempe.

 

As far as living in Arizona, are there any residential areas worth mentioning in the northern part of the sate – north of Flagstaff? The wife and I are planning a road trip to Arizona and Utah this summer to just explore part of the country that we’ve never been and do the tourist thing. At the same time I’m doing a little recon into potential retirement areas. On the whole Arizona looks to have many perks for retired living from what I’ve read/researched. Asking about the northern half because I would like to live somewhere that gets all four seasons.

 

I haven't been to most of these and others will fill in. Show Low and surrounding area on the eastern side. Prescott is my first choice for future residence. Williams and Page are a couple of smaller cities. Show Low, Prescott and Williams all get snow every winter. The real nice part of AZ is that with a couple hour drive, the climate can be totally different.

 

Many Thanks. I read the write up on Prescott Valley back on page 1 and it sounds very appealing. Back five years ago when it was written it was saying that house prices started around $250,000. I was hoping for something a little less (if possible). Thinking along the lines of fixed income and don't really want to take out a mortgage that goes into my 70s or 80s. One thing I'm hoping to have some time for is wheeling (nothing hard core) so proximity to the great outdoors is a big plus.

 

I prefer one season... Hot and dry!!! While you're looking, feel free to look us up for a place to hang out. We're 4 hours from Grand Canyon and 2.5 from Flagstaff.

 

Thanks for the invitation. Anyone have an opinion on Page, AZ? Every picture I see from up there looks like it could have could straight out of a National Geographic.

 

I will be attending Grand Canyon University in September and I'm wondering if there's go off-roading near the campus. If so how far is it and what do you think of it.

 

There Is but its about 30 min up the 17 freeway and there are some good spots like crown king and bloody basin aswell as sheep's bridge

 

Im In show low and depending how close to town you want to be we have housing going from 2 bed cabins on 4 acres at 79k up to multi million dollar mansions. Im currently looking at a couple places in the 180k range outside of town on a good amount of land. There are houses to find that are priced very well all over the state it just takes some looking

Cabin needs a little work. Dont get me wrong. But Its a nice spot for a bachlor And 100 yards from wheeling

No I can find that one online. Let me see If I can today and I will post it. There is another for asking price 88k on 10acres. But you could probably get her down to 60k cause a dude shot himself in the bedroom and she hasnt been able to sell for a couple years. I was showing @Milota95 both houses cause im trying to get him to move up.
