Damn, Aaron that's a good price for your pad. If I didn't own my house, I be looking in that neighborhood.

it is definitely a steal, but the landlord is kind of weird about it, I think someone died in that house recently cuz she never steps foot in the house and never answers my questions about the previous tenants lol

    :eek::eek::eek:

That's kind of interesting...and creepy at the same time.

My buddy got this crazy deal on this Carmann Ghia at an auction way back in high school...

He gets the car after the auction is over and it has six holes in the door a blood soaked seat and a poice report in the glove box!!! The guy got shot in a police chase.

    Brings character

According to Salary.com, the cost of living in Anaheim, CA as compared with Newark NJ, you'd experience about a 20% cost of living increase (If you made $50K/year in NJ, you'd have to earn $60K/year in Anaheim, California to live at the same standard of living).

Also, industry tends to pay less here than there. A job that paid $50K in NJ would only net you $46K in Anaheim.

Here is the Salary.com wizard. You enter your current city/state and your income. Then choose your destination place to live and work (seperate inputs).

    http://swz.salary.com/CostOfLivingWizard/LayoutScripts/Coll_Start.aspx

Based on some input in a previous post, I figured one for living in Orange County and working in Anaheim and the cost of living increase dropped to 13% vs. 20% for living in Anaheim.

I'd stay the hell away from Riverside lol :p

In all seriousness, there are really nice neighborhoods anywhere, and what some people may think as an undesirable neighborhood may be great for you. I live in a predominantly Asian neighborhood and I love it because I love Chinese food, there is virtually no crime here, the rent is cheap and the neighborhoods are really nice and clean. Its just that white ppl hate living there cuz its full of asians haha thats prolly why rent is dirt cheap.

Thanks for all of your input.. this is pretty consistent with other stuff I've read online. I pay about 1900 a year for insurance now and that's w/ full coverage so that wont be so bad and everything else seems to be about the same except for sales tax. I'm currently living at home but I have about 10 G in the bank. I was thinking about moving out there with my girlfriend next spring. I work at medieval times in NJ and I would most likely be able to transfer to the one in Buena Park (that's why I'm looking into this area). I'm thinking my girl would be able to find a job out there real quick (disney) just to get by until we get something more stable...

I was checking out apt's/condos for rent around Anaheim and it seem that I'd be able to get something decent for about $1500 or less a month.

I wouldnt move until both you and your girl have 100% secured a job. Driving around LA/OC looking for jobs is not fun at all. PM Whatthepho? about buena park. He lives there, a few streets from Medieval Times, he'll be the most help

I def will PM him for some more info, the more I can learn the better... We will def. have jobs secured before we move out, I wouldn't wanna roaming around for jobs with my life depending on it lol... I have a degree in criminal justice, honors grad w/quality resume, anybody have an idea of the law enforcement/private security job market in that area? (Jersey job market is not doin too well with government cuts/layoffs) I have medieval times to get my self settled but I'm not trying to work there forever

I'd look into the various police departments.

I know in the San Diego sherriff's academy, they're not doing much hiring right now. I imagine it will be similar for LA. California is one of the hardest hit in this economy. Unemployment is still near 12% and is probably higher in LA:

I just moved to Southern California and graduated from University of Nevada, Reno. I ended up getting a place in down town Long Beach. I'm about 10 mins from work. Seems like people are a lot friendlier here than Nevada in general.

My rent is $1400 for a 500 SQ Ft studio. Besides it being pretty small, it's not bad considering that my girlfriend also lives with me (for now) and we split the rent in half.

Definitely research and ask people about the areas you're trying to move to. I'm in a good down town apartment building but if I go 2 blocks down the street inland, it can get pretty ghetto really fast lol

NJ to CA... the communism, corrupt politics, lack of personal freedoms, high taxes, jobless rate and cost of living are pretty much the same. You are just trading guidos for bros. Good luck!

actually, depends upon who you hang out with... i almost never see bro's... but i'm a bit older than a lot of people here, so it's the crowd i hang out with.

communism? lol... okay, whatever. not sure where that came from.
corrupt politics? EVERYWHERE in the US
lack of personal freedoms? if you say so, i don't notice it.
high taxes - yes, relatively high taxes. worth it to me to live here however.
jobless rate? jobless rate if lower here than in most places (OC).
cost of living? yes, relatively high, as are the wages (they generally go hand in hand)
