I'm moving to Corpus Christi in about 8 weeks from San Diego. How is the place down there? I have never lived in Texas but I am a midwest guy from southwest Kansas. I have family in Dallas and look forward to watching some Cowboy games this coming season. Any suggestions or benefits of the area? Thanks

It's the armpit of Texas. Cheap, kinda dirty, bad traffic, but good food and good beaches.

No need to pack your trashcan, people in Corpus seem to just toss garbage wherever they feel like it.

    Yep...

Yes! Damn I miss their food... my wife's uncle lives in Corpus and we'd swing down from San Antonio a couple of times a year on the way to Padre and eat there...

In the military and got orders there for the next 4 years of my life. I'm excited about it, but getting mixed feelings after reading some of the opinions of the place. I've lived in california for the last five years, and in Barstow at that which has to be in the top ten dirty cities. What type of food are you guys talking? BBQ? Mexican?

Mexican. I guarantee our (South Texas') Mexican food will beat California's any day of the week.

Cant complain, lived here my whole life basically, worked in Dallas, California, Oklahoma ( never go back there ), and well its not as bad as some are making it out to be. Yes it could be nicer but its easy to drive from one place to another with a population of about 270,000 everything is about 10 minutes away then you can drive north or south of here. The beach is cool kinda boring at times too, there is a restaurant at about every corner. I am a sales manager here at Golds Gym so PR is my best. PM me any questions and ill try to help you.

Also if you like tourist spots, there is a place called Snoopys that serves the best fish and chips I have ever eaten.
I hated the beaches, all of the crap Venezuela throws in the ocean ends up in Corpus, just the way the current flows. Coming from California you are going to hate the beaches. However if you like to fish, the redfish are plentiful. And the charter boats arent outrageous.

Some refer to Corpus as a quaint fishing village in northern Mexico. Living in Corpus Christi-I wish I could disagree with these folks that trash talk the city, but most is true. I have lived in nicer places, but the city is getting better IMHO, the food situation is getting better, yes we have a lot of beach, good surf, great fishing, good kayak trails, 4hours from Houston, 2+ hours to San Antonio, 60 miles to Port Mansfield on the beach 40+ miles of beach 4WD action. I have lived here about 5 years. I grew up about 60 miles North of CC and visited here quite often growing up. It is getting better in many ways, but we still have a long way to go. We have a PF Chang's and Grimaldi's opening soon at the mall-which will give our restaurant situation a definite kick start. Along with our large mexican population-we have a large number of mexican restaurants. The Jalisco style taquerias are plentiful and very affordable. Taqueria El Potro and Taqueria Tapatia are pretty good, Reparo Taquito drive through breakfast taco stand on Airline and Gollihar has great tacos, Mama Mia's and Dragonfly have great atmosphere, service and food-but priced on the high end-however well worth it. For good seafood, as before mentioned-Water Street is good or you can travel to Port Aransas or Rockport for more options. Port Aransas is about a 20 minute drive from town and has Virginia's, Trout Street, Crazy Cajun, FINS and many more great little cafes. Our largest mall is being renovated-which should be nicer. There are several movie theatres, a couple of decent shooting ranges, and the golf courses are tolerable. If you plan to buy, the taxes are high-but coming from California-this should not be too much of a shock. The South Side of town is the most popular for new residents looking for more newly constructed homes. I live between Alameda and Santa Fe which is an area with older homes. South Padre Island Drive pretty much divides the old and new. The South is the newer stuff and the North side is the older neighborhoods. Drop us a line when you get to town and we'll have to get together for a drink-by the way that brings me to bars......we have a lot of bars too.... Executive Surf Club downtown is a good meeting place-outside of that you have Molly's on McArdle, Brewster Street Icehouse, Doctor Rockit's Blues bar, Bourbon Street and Voodoo Lounge, Whiskey River, Sharkey's(Port A), and many more.......
Safe Travels and Welcome to South Texas.

Sorry for being so long winded...
