So my wife and I are finally getting to come back to the states from overseas. I grew up in Orange Texas till I was 21 and now we are moving to Dallas. Just wondering if anyone has any tips, stories, ideas.

We are probably going to get an apartment for a year before deciding where to live in the area. Then get some land and build a house.

Get an apartment first. North Dallas or suburbs are the best/safest. South Dallas is the 'hood. Pricing on apartments runs the full range depending on location. You might try an apartment locating service. They are free.

Just don't confuse anywhere along 635, east of 75 as north Dallas. The area has the highest violent crime rate in the city. When I think north Dallas, I think nearer to Addison, along the Tollway. I live near Mesquite and I am not a fan of the area. If I were looking to get an apartment, I'd be looking in Uptown or Addison. It is more expensive in those areas, but it is pretty central to entertainment and it isn't too difficult to find a nice place and traffic isn't a killer, well the tollway at Beltline sucks everyday, but its just one bottle neck.

I know Ft. Worth has some nice areas, but I have never really been there.

Hey I appreciate all you guys chiming in. I really look forward to it and my sister lives there anyway. She says the McKinney, Frisco, Little Elm are pretty nice.

Well I look forward to joining some fellow Tacoma enthusiasts in the area.

I need the Customs and Border Patrol to hire me so I can do mods. hahahaha

that might not be a great idea. when my bro had to ship his car on the train (not sure how your taco is being shipped),he only had some regular stuff in it, and the shippers or employees or whatever stole a portable battery booster out of his trunk. he knew it was them too cuz he used it every day and it was gone the day he got it back.

When shipping from overseas to the states you are not allowed to leave anything in your vehicle except the stuff that came in it.

It would be nice to load it up.

I even have to have it detailed because they dont want any German dirt getting back to the states. Hahaha.

The wife was so loving the Toyota we just sold out BMW 335I kitted and quad exhaust with 19s for a 4runner. We have to ship it to. I am not going to like being without either one for 2 months.

I live in Southlake, but anywhere in between Dallas and Ft. Worth is awesome, I love it here. Keller, Trophy Club, Grapevine, and southlake are all awesome.

I'm in Fort Worth as well. Nice, quiet, relatively low crime rate and good schools without the country club attitude of Dallas. There is awesome recreation all around the metro area. The mid-cities areas mentioned above like Southlake, Grapevine, Keller, Hurst, Flower Mound (a little further North) are all nice areas with lots of housing to choose from and great schools from what I hear. If you prefer to be around the more laid-back easy going types then Fort Worth is your best bet. However, if you like a faster pace, trendy scene then Dallas is perfect.
