Not sure if yall were being sarcastic. But he works in same industry I do, regulated mandatory pipeline inspections, so I'm quite safe from layoffs.

On the flip side, both my brothers work on drilling rigs and got laid off about 6 weeks ago. Then one of them got called back.

Not in my department (DOT pipelines)..but other departments in my building are not so fortunate..

Some of my IT friends have to go..and some of our safety folks are getting the ax..

It's just the way the industry works..

Quite serious. At 48 I've lived this cycle quite a few times with lots of layoffs. Tough to get moved to a new local and then have the price drop like a rock. Save for the rainy day...not that I have always followed that advice... Better to be in Houston from a job standpoint in this industry than CA.

Nope, South Texas area. My cousin recently moved from international rigs to Midland/Odessa area rigs. He still has a job, but works as a “company man”, whatever that is. I’m not too familiar with rigs.

O’ okay. Yes, my dad always worked drilling rigs his entire life. So I know what you mean, he always tells my brothers to save up for a rainy day.

I know it pays very very very good. Yeah, he moved up quick and just turned about 29-30 years of old. I always heard the Company Man is the position to have in the rigs.

B Miller, sorry for the off topic post. Anyway, if you guys tour our facility again, just let me know and I will say hello. Chevron has stopped by a few times in the past. My friend and former co-worker use to work with you guys as Pipeline Integrity Technologist up until 1-2 years ago.

Its pretty good. Very different from the CA lifestyle I'm used to..but I'm adjusting

The move went pretty good..that drive tho..man..talk about tease..nearly 1,400 miles of desert and no truck to go play in:mad:

Other than that..just missing my big garage and work shop. I need to do some repairs to my fender supports..I think this weekend I'm going to go buy 100' of cord so I can tap into the 220v i have upstairs in the laundry room.
