Well I need opinions, i'm deployed at the moment and was looking forward to coming home to my 2014 DCSB Sr5 4x4 V6 s/t. I bought it before I knew about this deployment but I didn't mind, i've spent free time in the desert shopping for parts to put into it. I roll into work last night and I find out I have orders to Japan. Bringing the truck is not an option, I owe 17,000 on this truck that was stickered at 31,000. It's only got around 2,000 miles but now i'm befuddled on what to do with it. Leave it in storage for 3 years or sell it? I'm getting home in July and leave in October, giving me roughly 3 months to inprocess, visit family, sell it/store it, and outprocess again to PCS. If I need to sell it, what's the best way to go about doing that? What should I try and sell it for, the trucks essentially new. I left it with my shop back home (I'm in aircraft maintenance), they start it regularly and drive it a minuscule amount. Any help would be much appreciated.

Sell it and invest the cash and save more to put with it. In three years you can get a new one with no payments. As for a price wait until July when you get home and check what it is worth in your area through NADA or Kelly Blue book and put an ad on Craigslist. If you have a place in the area that sells vehicles on consignment that also is a possibility, but sell it.

Sell it, then before you come home from your tour in Japan, buy the newest Hilux diesel there and ship it home. Win, win.

Sell it, since you have to buy a car there as well, used cars are cheap over there! You can't bring a j-spec car back to the US but you can bring it to Germany if you PCS over there after 3 years.

That's exactly what I was gonna say! Sell it now and buy a diesel turbo hilux and have it shipped over to the states (if you can, but I see others are saying no)! If anything....sell the taco and buy a nice harley davidson (and sell that in japan to make extra cash!) I was stationed at Iwakuni and did some time up at Fuji. Enjoy it and don't be frustrated if anyone gives you the x sign when trying to enter an establishment....it just means they don't know enough english to serve you. Give me a shout if you wanna chat off line....I had a good experience there and can shed some light on what to do and what not to do (definitely make a trip over to korea while your there).

Seriously though, sell the truck. Their will be a new one waiting for you when you return. Write an email to the owner of the dealer you bought it from explaining your problem. They may help you work something out, they may not. But, its a place to start.

Sell it, you'll be making payments and will have to cover it with some type of insurance while your gone. Either storage or full coverage if you let someone drive it.

You can't just bring a new hilux back, people need to just forget that idea. You could bring a 25 year old model back, but good luck finding a 25 year old anything in Japan. Never mind exchange rates and taxes.

This is one of the reasons I never wanted to go to Japan. That might sound silly, but I like my cars/truck. Everyone I know that went loved it though.

Sell the tuck, try not to spend all of your COLA, and get yourself a nice rig with the row payment when you get back.

    What's your tour? Short/unaccompanied?

Just sell it! You would get home and probably forget about it. Besides by the time you get back here it would be dirty and need work.
