I'm a pipeliner right now, first tech school for me and I'm also in the 1N0 course. Just to let everyone know I hear there's supposed to be a 4wd club meet hosted by a group out of midland on the 26th of July out at Twin Buttes the meet up point is the wal mart on Sherwood at 9am. Ill be heading out with my wife to check it out. Ill post more details as I find out if you'd like.

Arrived at Goodfellow on Thursday and got unpacked and the house setup. Nice burs in the yard!

I am attending inprocessing this tuesday...anyone know if Finance will do travel vouchers and weight tickets then or do I do it on my time?

Hey, trying to resurrect this post. I'll be moving to San Angelo soon enough. How's it been? Are there rooms for single students on base?
And good things to do over there? -Or should I be just focused on the course work? hahaha

Just saw your post. Are you a pipe line student or retrainee? There's things to do for sure. I didn't find the course work hard at all, just time consuming but that's just my opinion.

Go eat at Armenta's and get the steak tacos with a Dos Equis and the next day go to Zero One Ale house and order a beer flight, then more beer...any one of them because there are a lot of choices. Then, close your eyes and let your finger hit anywhere on the menu for food...it is seriously that good.

I'm a IST reclass. Moving from 13N to 14N. I'm guessing from previous traffic you're an instructor? Do you teach the O Side now? That'd be interesting to have someone on here be teaching me.

    No I wasn't an instructor. I was a retrainee into 1N0.

Ahh okay. How long was the course on your side? Difficulty? And some things to do in the area? I've heard of Torchy Tacos or something like that?

I lived on base with my family and due to my children's ages we didn't do much getting out and partying or climbing a mountains, etc. There is a pretty awesome kid's park down by the river if you have children.

This is from my earlier post. It's the gospel...."Go eat at Armenta's and get the steak tacos with a Dos Equis and the next day go to Zero One Ale house and order a beer flight, then more beer...any one of them because there are a lot of choices. Then, close your eyes and let your finger hit anywhere on the menu for food...it is seriously that good."

Twin Buttes Reservoir is the best place for offroading. Lots of trials and a few hills to climb. Oh...and eat at Francos on the north side of town. And buy your RVs from American Truck and RV (my dad owns it)!!!

If you have a facebook check out the group west texas crawlers. I did a trail run out at twin buttes with them when I was out there in 2014 and had a blast! If you need any work done on your truck while your there go see Matt at west texas 4 wheel and offroad. Those guys do great work and know their stuff. My wife and I traveled a lot all over texas while we were there. Austin was tons of fun as was Dallas. Heres a pic from the twin buttes run. Thats an SASed fj thats owned by that guy Matt from the 4x4 shop. Everyone was ok just had the suspension preload at a bad time and sent the fj over on the lid really slowly. Tons of cool people out at that run.

Never knew anyone from San Angelo were Tacomaworld members. Really good to know. By the way, Francos is the absolute best Mexican food in town. And they will serve beer @ 0800. I work nights as a nurse for Shannon Hosp. And another second for Zero One Ale house. Really great Beer choices.

@Theloraxcross, do you still work at shannon? My wife works there as well. I went out to twin Buttes this weekend and watched the fireworks from up on the hill, there was a really nice white 16 trd off road there watching as well. I catch who he was though. I like going out there and driving, but I don't do anything too crazy as I only have 2wd.

Just dropping by to say hi, I'm originally from San Angelo but near Austin now. The city side of Twin Buttes is pretty tame, no 4WD required unless it just rained or you try snorkeling. Haven't been to the state park side yet but I hear that's where the good stuff is. Next time I'm "home" I intend to head out that way. I've had plenty of fun at on the city side, take a pole and a tent and drive up stream a bit. Nice place to just chill.

My father in law is a realtor, http://dierschke.com/agents-roland-allen_17-3s.html The oil boom has busted and prices should start coming down I would expect.
