    Hola neighboring state people.

Recently got accepted into graduate school at UA and will be moving in August (who doesn't love moving during the hottest time??)

It is pretty early to start house hunting but want some local input!

We are looking to rent a place with a couple requirements if you guys can help out. As in what neighborhoods to look for or where to stay away from

    - 2 bedrooms 1+ bath
    - I want a house, wife doesn't mind apartment. I hesitate from apartments because of parking, rando ass people, and close living. We will also have a very new baby so that makes me not want apartment living as well as not having washer dryer hookups
    - No more than 1k a month
    - good neighborhood that wife and kid can walkabout outside and where truck wont get broken into
    - biking distance to UA (about 5 mile radius). I'll mainly be south campus near the Natural Resource skool

I mean we are coming from Albuquerque so it can only get better than here

Thanks all and hope to meet ya soon

My opinion won't help. I think Albuquerque is a much better place lol.

    good to know

I love ABQ but the crime rates (especially vehicle related and theft) are pretty terrible

I worked for the police department there. I agree about the crime. We lived in Tanoan to avoid it as best as we could.

I just moved to Tucson myself last October. Unfortunately, that means I am of no help other than to say I love it here so far!

If you can bump your rent up to around $1200/mo, that might help a lot in your search. That's what I'm paying now for a 3 bed, 2.5 bath house, 1900 sqft with a 2 car garage in NW Tucson. It's a little further out than you want to be though. You will have a ton of options at that price but also a lot of competition from what I found. They go quickly.

Hah glad you love it so far!

I was looking at higher rent because that opens up a ton of opportunities and a few nicer houses! However, I will be on a grad assistant salary and would like some extra money for sustenance

Are you west of the I10?

Congrats man! Just finished up from his lab group in Dec. Reach out to me if you need to know anything about him, the lab group, etc. Happy to help! When you're in town, I'll come down and we can go get drinks or something with Chad and some of the other folks in the lab.
