;) I was recently looking at cars, and noticed that some of the V-6 autos get about the same gas mileage or worse than the Tacoma. Chevy Impala was supposed to get 18 city/20 Highway, Fusion was 16-20 thats just for a car to carry passenger around in. I guess I don't feel to bad now...;)

I had a 02 taco 2 wd 2.4 5 speed and if I was going 70-75 mph I would not get the 25mpg I would get at 60 mph. even though I was babying it I would never get 25 mpg going 70 +. The figure that is in the window sticker is rated at 55 mph not at 70 mph. my 07, double cab, 4x4, v6 is probly getting 19 if im lucky, my old 87 suburban would get 14, not much of a difference. oh well, this is still the USA and we still have the freedom to drive anything we want

I was just hoping that the 2.7L with the VVT-i (variable valve timing), direct injection, and better atomization of the injected fuel would help the fuel economy. Some of the guys on here are getting the better mileage, but I noticed that these are usually not driving PreRunners...

My 2x4 94 Suburban got 19-20 on the highway - the only change that I made to it was putting in a high flow air filter on the 350ci engine.

I may just have too wait for the D4D engine to get here to get over 25 MPG outta my truck...

Yeah, I was kinda disappointed with those numbers. My wife's Rav4 has a very powerful V6 powering a 4WD SUV. It gets almost exactly the EPA estimated 28 MPG on the highway... makes you wonder what Toyota is doing right.;)

just to let everyone know.. I took my taco out of town for her first trip.. I went up the mountains to Asheville NC to see the Biltmore House... I calculated my milage on a fresh tank of gas. 23.6 MPG on the trip... can't beat that... not to mention my taco takes mountain hills like noboy's business... She's awesome! Love her!

20% tint on fronts, stock everywhere else, its a lease!
Took mine on a maiden trip down to Edisto Beach, SC this past weekend. Most of the time speeds were around 75mph with the cruise on. Avg 21mpg on that tank. From there we went over to Savannah, GA and speeds were around 50-55mph and I got 23mpg. I am quite happy with that all things considered. That was with plain 87 octane gas from whomever had it cheapest.

Corey - we considered heading up to Biltmore this weekend! Will probably hold off with the cold weather moving in.

frvrngn, Biltmore is really really awesome this time of year... All the tulips are in full bloom with pinks, yellows, oranges, reds, purples... so beautiful! You'll enjoy it, but I would hold off until the cold weather is gone too.. maybe the next weekend..

Same exact truck, same dissapointment. I have ~9000 miles on mine, and I am am getting about 21 - 23 MPG. I am driving mostly city traffic, but I hit the highway hard too (typically 70-85 MPH). I am going to try to really baby on the way back to San Antonio, and see what I get.

    BTW, nice truck

I've been monitoring my mpg with every fillup. i average between 18-20 mpg, that includes highway and around town and intermitant AC use, so i guess it's not too bad. My biggest complaint is that i have about a 300 mile range before my gas light comes on. I guess if i ran out the tank i might hit 400 miles but i'm not about to do that. Anyway, i would rather have a slightly larger tank so i didnt have to fill up as often.

New member to the forum....glad I found it. I currently have about 23K in my '06 Tacoma and I am still occassionally surging while at a stop. Any ideas as to why or do I have an issue?

no kidding, i hover somewhere around 17mpg. (mainly city driving though). I find it extremely strange that the same exact engine can vary by 7 mpg.

I drive this thing like a friggin old lady and i dont get anywhere near what cory gets.
My brother has the same exact truck (different color) and he averages 15.5 mpg
Are you sure your calculating that mpg correctly??

Had my 07 2.7L w/ AT 2WD Access Cab for about 2 weeks now - It had 1600 miles on it when purchased. In the city I get around 20 mpg, just came back from a trip to gatlenburg and got 25 hwy. I made sure to drive with the tailgate down. Not sure if it made a difference or not. I am going to get a cover or topper soon. Wondering what that will do for the gas MPG. anyone know? I went from an 02 Avalanche 4WD getting 12 mpg city ( most of what I do ) so I am happy with the 20 mpg.

I just installed a ScanGauge II. Its pretty cool. Instant feedback for gas mileage, among about a hundred other things. It claims that i get around 17.4 mpg city driving. However, i filled up the tank for the 4th time yesterday and I calculated 15.59mpg. I think it needs more driving to calculate a better average. The 17.4 mpg was only after driving 12 miles.

regardless, its awesome. And it should help out my MPG alot.

That’s really cool!! However I just looked up the ScanGauge II and it does not mention that it supports a Prerunner. Did your instruction manual indicate that?

Scroll to the bottom of this page: http://www.scangauge.com/support/CompatibleVehicles.shtml
Basically any vehicle 1999 and beyond is supported.

The OBD-II interface is on the drivers side, below the dash. I preferred to have the SGII as low profile as possible, so i mounted it in the tray to the right of the steering wheel. This way i can look through the opening on the side of the steering wheel and see the read-out with ease. It works well. Its also very discreet. I just ran the cable up under the steering column and under the dash and into the plug. the excess cable i looped, tie wrapped and stuffed into the excess space by the fuse box.
