I usually try to stay around 60-65mph and try to be easy on take off. Still at it's lowest its better than my old '00 s10 2wd 2.2 at it's best!

Mine has almost 25000 miles on it and usually 22mpg is the best I can do. In the last month or so my mileage has increased not sure why driving the same way since I have owned my truck and now I am averaging 24 or better. Some of my trips show 26 or better now. Hell I drove slow the other day 40mph top speed on an 18 mile trip and when I shut my truck off it registered 32.2 mph for those 18 miles.

Sigh... Yes I do get some amusement out of posting high MPG pics. Obviously it's uncommon hence why would I take the photo. I do usually baby my truck, also because it is a manual I can choose which gear I drive it in. Usual tank economy for me is 18-24mpg. 90% of my driving is suburban driving. 2 lane roads with frequent stop lights. The stop lights obviously kill mileage. Best way to avoid that is gradual braking and gradual speed increase.

The trip I was able to obtain such a high MPG was to sunset crater. It's an area that's not very populated with soft rolling hills a speed limit of 35 and at an elevation of about 7000 feet. Keeping an average speed with a fluctuation of +- 5 MPG really helped. I reached the MPG seen in the photos over a period of about 25 miles. The majority of the trip I did end up hovering around 26 MPG.

I'll say this for the sake of stating the obvious. Road conditions, braking, acceleration, stoping, red lights, abrupt throttle use, wind, elevation driving terrain and even tire condition will all factor into MPG. Also it is a computer so take it with a grain of salt.

In summary, a realistic expectation of fuel economy should be somewhere in between 16-22 mpg. Anything more or less than that and there is probably some other factor playing into these numbers.

    Cheers

Me too. Just hit 1k miles, getting almost exactly 20mpg for the 3 fill-ups so far. No complaints here, 20mpg is fine with me.

About half of my mileage is commuting in light traffic in Atlanta, other half is just short trips to the grocery or around town. I can coast or try to "hypermile" or whatever and keep at like ~25mpg average, but not without inconveniencing other drivers. It's a truck. It won't get 40mpg.

I'm by far not complaining. I was just curious if anyone else had seen a change in their fuel economy. I'm not going to do any air intake or exhaust changes because I don't believe it's going to change any until they have a tune for it.

The more I drive, the more I learn what the truck likes, the better it gets. I have 3500 miles on mine. Tonight I drove a 60 mile round trip. One way for 10 miles at 75, ten at 70, and about ten at 65, then the reverse. Going I had a 19mph headwind, coming back I had a 12mph tailwind. Going was 18.1, coming was 20.9. Cruise control used the whole way too.

I've also noticed the engine is turning slower. At 75mph I'm now down to 2500rpm. When I drove it home brand new, it was about 2650 at the same speed.

Because of the way these trucks are geared, they are very susceptible to adverse conditions, just watch the ECO on your radio while driving but don't forget to look at the road. I thought my Wrangler was bad in the wind, this is much worse. A manual trans. can increase mpg much more than one might think, not to mention saving on brake shoes. I really miss the manual trans. that I use to complain about.

This and the quality of gas.

6th gear is way too high for this truck. I keep my auto truck in Sport 5th and I get better gas mileage than Drive. Don't be fooled, 6 speeds is not always better than 5 speeds....Not sure where that second statement came from.

The fuelly app is a free & simple to use app that you fill out the miles, price and volume of gas and hit send when getting gas and it tracks your mileage really well.

So I took a trip to Pigeon Forge for spring break and this was my mileage going. I did not get a picture on return trip but it was 23.5mpg. I took interstate going and hwy 411 returning. My truck has 1800 miles now and my mileage has improved. I have been studying my rpm vs gears vs blue fuel bar and what I have determined is 6th gear is useless. What I do now is any driving under 55-60 I put in Sport with 4th gear being the highest. When I hit the interstate it gets moved to 5th in Sport mode or if I'm traveling over 60mph it has made a huge difference in mileage and those annoying downshifts. I think 6th gear would be useful on the autobond at 100+ mph other than that it's useless. IMG_1362.jpg

You hit the nail on the head.

6th gear is useless. I would not complain if on the next transmission TSB they eliminated 6th gear all together, or at least locked it out till around 70 m.p.h. at least.

I've been keeping mine in S5 unless I get on the interstate, then it's S6

My truck never sees 6th unless I forget and put it in drive. I run S5 on the interstate at 80-85 mph.
