Again, I really thank you for all the help and advice. So overwhelming.

For me, I need a quite cargo space. Most sedans are not long/big, except full size like Tahoe which is expensive. More specifically l used to drive van/minivan for this reason for decades.

In fact with Taco(and all other trucks), I’d need a custom camper shell to accommodate my requirement, and this shell’d drop 2 mpg.

Logically, I should keep driving minivan for every occasion. But after around 20 years I just want to drive what I want to drive for the first time. My wife will get a minivan so I can use it to manage the situation.

I’m thinking about signing 15,000mi/yr lease deal. If lease doesn’t look good then I’d consider purchasing.

I’m not super sensitive about the gas price (my mind is ready to drive a truck haha) but SoCal gas (indeed everything) is so expensive (I’m from NJ), so I want to save every single buck possible.

Once I get the truck soon, I will share all the set up and information, so I can contribute at least a bit. Again thank you for all the advice. I finally can get things straight and clear.

And right now is about as cheap as you're going to see it.

When it doubles and you are still in your lease, will you be full of regret?

I have a 2019 TRD Sport DCSB. I changed the tires and wheels within a week of buying it. It now has 265/70/R17 Nitto Terra Grapplers on T4R Pro wheels. Usually I get 18.5MPG on the highway doing 70 MPH. Just a week ago I left for the airport early and drove 100 miles at 60 MPH and I actually got 24.4MPG. I was completely surprised at this unbelievable increase. In another week I will be heading home from the airport and will check the mileage again. I know the less weight you have to turn, the better the mileage should be depending on your RPM's at the time.

If the gas price got doubled within 3 years, I think I wouldn’t be the only one who’s in regret of driving truck. Luckily Tacoma has amazingly high resale/demand in SoCal, so I can figure out something easily if the situation starts to change much.

From 18.5mpg to 24.4mpg is impressive change. I have to keep in mind. Maybe 60mph is sort of sweet spot for Taco TRD sport with 17-inch set up under the given engine setting/gear ratio and shift setting.

If you can get away with just a ARE or Leer cap, my mpg actually improved about 2mpg with the cap. However, if you have to go above the roofline, you will most definitely take a mpg hit.

If you need the cargo space and down to the last mpg, get a 2wd 4 cylinder Tacoma
