What's a reasonable MPG estimate for 3rd Generation Tacomas, which (hopefully) are just months away? I'm talking in terms of the Prerunner models. Current 4x2 Prerunners are listed as 19/21 MPG.

Do you think 21/23 MPG for 3rd Gens is too much to ask?

First month of ownership... This month I'm removing front air dam, and also Rhino lining the bed.
There are no 3rd gen Tacomas.

The 2nd Gen (which began sometime in 2005) is slated to run through the 2013 model year. Then, at that point in time way off in the future we will have a 3rd gen model Tacoma.

So, are you asking what that theoretical 3rd gen Tacoma will get for MPG?

My guess is that you are interested in the 2011 models? But they've been selling those now for months?

    So, I guess I'm confused...

Yes, theoretical 3rd Gen MPG estimate. Do you have any firm knowledge the 2nd Gen is running through 2013? Some people are saying the "3rd Gen" will be here in the 2012 models, which could arrive 6-8 months from now.

I know this forum has a lot of younger guys who aren't old enough to care (don't feel bad, I was the same way) but an increase of 2 MPG would save us $2400 or more in gas costs over the lifetime of the truck.

So I'm conflicted whether to buy a 2011 now or wait until next summer to see what the 2012's offer.

Dude, you're 20 years old. Time to grow up.

When you get older and have a family, an extra $2400 not spent on gas can go a long way toward feeding your kids and paying the rent.

DUDE, read the post he quoted, he wasn't calling you retarded.

    ... edit
just how long is the lifetime of a truck?
I think it impossible to say right now if and or when the 3rd gen will come out and even more impossible to say what MPG it will be getting.
IMO if this is that important to you, wait and see.

So we should be on our 4th gen (09 since they added traction control and changes some interior)?

if gas mileage on a truck is an issue ... perhaps buy a minivan and keep a 4cyl reg cab around for when the truck is neccesay?

If the gas mileage on the 3rd Gen Tacomas improves significantly, you wouldn't need to consider other vehicles, at least not as much.

dude it's a truck, yes it would be nice to have better gas mileage but... you aren't going to get much more out of a v6 truck, honestly from what i have heard from non-tacoma's gas mileage I'm plenty happy with what i have... even the less MPG with the 6-speed, i still love it

I'm pretty sure you can get better mileage out of a v6 truck. In fact you could probably throw a V8 and get better mileage. Some people are getting 15 mpg....Raptors with 6.2L can get 15 mpg.....

As for 3rd gens, there still is no information available. I'm anxious to see if there is going to be any significant differences either as I am in the market for a new truck as well. I'm going to email Toyota to see what kind of response I can get in regards to 3rd gen information and see if there will even be a 3rd gen tacoma in 2012. I'll update when I get a response.

Can 6.2l raptors ever get 24mpg like I can?

Can even Tundra V8's get 24mpg?

It's very obvious one could find better mpg V6's...like maybe a 3.0V6. If you know of ANY V8 truck that gets better mileage let's hear it. I'm not saying there aren't any, I am just curious to know which there are.

Are there any 3.0L V8 engines? If so, I doubt they'd necessarily be more efficient than a 3.0 V6.
