Mostly driving 55-60 mph, I didn't catch what the computer said was average speed. Relatively flat road but not perfectly flat. No idea on headwind but it wasn't very windy one way or the other.

I just passed 3,000 miles on my 2wd TRD offroad crew cab. My drive to work is 35 miles without hills and through the country. I set the cruise on 60-62 and get 23 mpg. When I drive to Raleigh/Greensboro/Charlotte and drive 70-80 mph the mpg goes down to around 19/20. My experience with my 2016 Sport tells me after about 10-20k miles the mpg will overall average around 22-23.

That's true. You need a F150 2WD Regular cab w/ the 5.0 and the optional HDPP to get max payload and towing numbers. Tundras are more balanced across the different configurations available.

I have a stock OR and this tank of gas driven 408 miles the gas light just came on I think when the light comes on you have about 3 gallons left so my average now is at about 22 so that's about 470 miles to the tank. I don't always get this good it was mostly freeway but it just depends on how your drive.

"Unsprung mass includes rotational mass." Not exactly. Sometimes we mainly think of wheels, tires, and driveshaft, but rotational mass also includes crankshaft, rods, pistons, flywheel, and clutch plate/transmission components that are sprung weight. Because that involves more work, we don't usually go there except for racing applications (sprint cars, supermodifieds etc - many of these don't even run a flywheel, clutch, or transmission.) Given constraints of utility vehicle shape the best way to maximize the power you have is
#1 Reduce rotating mass (tires, then rims, flywheel, clutch)
    #2 Reduce unsprung weight
    #3 Reduce sprung weight

I'm pretty worried. I just sold my 1995 4Runner which averaged about 15mpg and bought a new 2019 Tacoma TRD OffRoad DCSB 4x4 and granted it's only been city driving the past couple of weeks but I'm barely making 14 mpg. I've gone through two tanks of gas and I'm very alert at how I'm driving. I can't seem to hit that 15 mpg in the city. Worried that the fuel pump recall might have something to do with it but I'm not on the list. Truck drives great and I'm not feeling any power loss... Just can't figure out why I'm getting such terrible numbers. I was expecting a low number but never thought it would be in the 13's. Just hope that after I hit 1k and above the tranny will settle down and help to regulate that fuel consumption.

I’m getting 15MPG with 265/70/17 Wildpeaks but it’s also like -18 Celsius outside.

Was getting about 20MPG in the summer and 25-28 MPG with the stockers in the summer.

That's because fuel mix will be rich until engine gets to operating temp. Warmer equals better.

Yes, I’m not complaining. Pretty normal for any rig.

I was hopeful too, but at 14000+miles, mine still hasn’t gotten much better (usually less than 15mpg).........I might be too gentle on the throttle so I think I might try driving the piss out of it for a while to finally finish breaking it in....

That's alarming... Just installed a soft tonneau cover and inflated my stock tires to 42psi and hit the highway. Cruse control most of the way at 65-70 and after about 3 hours of driving, pulled back into my driveway with exactly 17mpg... That ain't gonna cut it. I'm really not believing anyone is getting 25+... Especially with a 4x4. Disappointing but I'll keep working on it

I’m averaging 19mpg, with wildpeak 265/70/17. The tire size and type will also affect mpg.

This is still one of the best threads about MPG, simply explained and should probably be on the main page/referred to every other day since there is always a new thread about "why am I getting low mpg?"

I would really like to hear your explanation on the different techniques manufactures use to tweak their engines, every time I see a small engines (ex:like a 2.7) pulling the weight that it does plus towing, I cant imagine that they would be all that reliable. Great on gas sure but longevity? Id imagine thats a lot of stress for such a small engine.
