How much of a mpg hit should I expect switching to 285s from a 265/75/16? Currently getting around 17 ish.

I have seen varying answers on here.

The wider the more it drinks

I get better mpgs with 255/75/17
    vs
    265/70/17

I was getting between 16-18 mpg with my 285/70r17 C rated RGs. Why are you only getting 17 mpg stock? I get 18-20 easy on my nitto RGs in SL stock size on new truck.

I’m wondering if this data has been compensated for the new tire size, or are you all just going off the dash readings? If you change tire size the speedo stops reading correctly. If your speed and your odometer is off, so in turn will be your gas mileage readings.

You would need to adjust the reading by the % change in the diameter of the tire against the odometer and divide that with each fuel filled up.

What I wrote was after adjusting, not my first rodeo ;)

I have a feeling you may be the only one that has adjusted.

ETA: I wasn’t talking about your data specifically. Just all the data in the thread.

If you're worried about MPGs I wouldn't get 33s. If you have to get them I would suggest skinny 33s. I get 14mpg on 265/70/17. Can't wait to grab 33s this summer and watch it fall to around 11mpg lol is what it is.

I am one size bigger than stock with a 2.5 inch lift and a full time go fast camper on the back/ over the cab.

Also am in the mountains which does not help. Usually take a bunch of trips and don’t want to kill my mpg.

Ahh makes sense then, thought you were stock, have you compared weights then of the tires your looking at? Thats whats gonna make the biggest difference in losing additional MPG.

You are getting heavier tires which are wider and taller with increased rolling resistance.
