Just got 2011 access cab, 4 cylinder auto., I got it for gas mileage, not thrilled with taking it easy and getting just under 16 mpg with a mix (town & highway). Anyone else have this?

Changing my plugs and doing front/rear diff oil + transfer case oil upped my mileage by at least 3mpg. Went from 13mpg to 16+ overnight (city driving). I'm hoping for 18+ on this next road trip.

    I am lifted 3", 4wd, with 33's.

I have tried a variety of plugs including the Bosch Platinum +4. The best plug I've found is the Iridium plug that comes from the factory. I lost MPG on the other plugs but got the best MPG on the Iridium plugs.

BTW...If you haven't done with Thieu has done (i.e. change the drive line fluids to full synthetic) do it. I got the same gain in MPG as he did when I changed the fluids out. I used Amsoil, but Mobil 1 will work just as good.

Check your tire pressures. I run mine at 35 PSI and have no problems with tire wear and it helps MPG too.

I also have an '08 2.7. Curious, what was the mileage when you change the plugs. How did they look ? They say 100,000. You didn't do 100,000 in 2 years did ya ? I've got about 35K on mine. I don't think I want to wait til 100,000. The 6 cyl are pegged at 30,000. What's up with that ? They don't use Iridium plugs tho. Thanks Curious George

I just did mine as 45k (I'm 6 cyl.). The service rep himself told me not to worry about it until 60k and I read every 30k eveywhere online.

For $15 bucks and 45mins of my time, the added mpg was totally worth it.

I had a 1st Gen Tacoma and I tried different plugs in the 2.4L engine. the MPG dropped about 1 MPG and I got the engine check light coming on after 4K miles. I had it checked and it was a misfire code. I changed plugs to the factory Iridium and the problem went away and the mileage came back up. On my '08, I have only 32K on it. I also tried the "halo" plug in my Honda CR-V with the same results as the truck. So I'm sticking to the factory plug and will check them around 50K and again at 75K. I guess if it works, don't fix it, eh?

you probably have not broken the engine in yet. I get about 22-24 mpg with my 4 banger access cab. :)

My '10 4cyl, 5spd Prerunner access cab w/ 16k miles gets 22 in the city & that was when I was running 40 psi in the Dunlops. I'm running 48-50 psi rear/front & we'll see if that changes it all.

Just don't run the thermostat on panel/Def as I think it utilizes the A/C which will hurt mileage.

For those if you Running the dunlop grandtreks on your 2011 4x4 what are your tire pressures? The door jam says 30psi for front and rear. What are you guys running for best fuel economy? I hate the tires So i dont care about wear just care about not hydroplaining and dying with those horrible tires in the rain.

Exactly the same for me -- 2006 4-cylinder 2wd automatic access cab SR5, 58k miles. 2 weeks ago changed the motor oil/filter, tranny fluid and differential oil. Now it's smooth like buttah and clocked 24.2mpg on the last fill-up, mixed hwy/city. Stock tires at 34/32 psi F/R.

This is a excellent lead in to a question I've been wondering about. Who makes wal-mart supertech ? What are the standards ? Is it on a par with Mobil 1 - which seems to be the most used synthetic on TW and sold at Walmart ? How could I check this ? Anyone ? Thanks.
