Why do you say you know it should be 385 miles every time you fill up, if you average mpg sucks it will adjust accordingly.

Borla Pro XS Muffler with shop custom/stock cat-back pipe. Herculiner Bed painted and Tacoma Bed Mat.
I installed a Borla Pro XS muffler and honestly I do notice a slight improvement in gas mileage and I have the numbers to back it up. Initially I was going to do the Borla Cat back, but the diameter of the pipe they used is same as stock on my 2015 TRD Sport V6, and the bending on the stock pipe looks fine to me, not bad enough to justify spending 400 dollars extra for mandrel bent stainless. To me it seemed that if there was any bottleneck in the exhaust system giving me worse mileage that what is possible, it would only be the stock muffler, at least from the cat back. The stock muffler has weld points all over it, and to me that says the insides are probably full of baffles and very restrictive to the flow of the exhaust. The Borla muffler I bought is a straight pipe right through the center of the muffler. Borla claims on their website, gas mileage improvement if you drive normally without stepping on the gas too much.

After installing the muffler I noticed after a fill up, and running through it, that a tank easily lasted me 3 or 4 days longer than usual, and I changed nothing about my driving habits. On the highway I keep the RPMs under 2000, usually around 65 mph and only go over that to pass or speed up only momentarily before it shifts back up to keep my revs down. Following this driving behavior and running the numbers, my avg mpg went up to 19.23 after the install of the Borla muffler, up from 18.05 before with stock Toyota muffler. And like I said, driving habits and mileage/routine are mostly the same for the past few months. About 35 highway miles every day, that is total for trip to and from work every day, plus maybe an avg of another 5 to 10 miles of around town driving everyday. Personally I have seen a noticeable increase in fuel efficiency from installing the less restrictive muffler. On my normal routine it gives me an extra 3 or 4 days? Seems like it will pay for itself rather quickly.

The atmosphere is 78 percent nitrogen anyway. How is adding another 20% nitrogen to your tires going to help? Not trying to be a dick here but someone sold you a bill of goods.....

Any mileage benefit comes from stable tire pressure both over time and temperature since it stays in the tire longer and lack of moisture which expands more when going from liquid to gas(and also lowers pressure when it condenses). Water in the tank and lines of gas station fill stations can get in your tires and make pressure even less stable. Lack of moisture and O2 in nitrogen fills also reduces corrosion of tpms sensors. It's not a "bill of goods" but as with anything cost vs benefit is a consideration.

You get an extra 120-160 miles from each tank? That's quite a bit more than 1 mpg which would only get you halfway through 1 extra day. Butt dyno needs calibration. I'm not saying the 1+ mpg isn't worth it, just that you need to check your "days of use" figures.

So I have a 2018 sr 4 Cylinder stock . And I took a trip home for thanksgiving to go see my mom . And 2 tanks out there IAveraged 21. 7 to 22 mpg on the high way running 70 and 75-80 mph. And I got 390 and 410 miles to a tank . Coming home I got 26.3 miles to the gallon and 27.4 miles to the gallon . And I was running the cruise at 65mph the whole trip coming back.

Holy shit. I have never gotten more than 20 (thats calculated at the pump. No computer on the 2nd gen). What size tires are you running? And did you say you have 4 door?

Oh well. Guess ill just have to be happy with my 19-20 mpg because im not dropping down to 245's.

I do get 1 mpg more when i run my K&N drop in. Ive gone back to stock style filter a couple of times and tested for a few thousand miles and always get about 1mpg more with the K&N. FWIW.

So when it’s time to replace the original air filter from the factory is it better to buy an aftermarket Air filter or stay with stock air filter.

Despite what people claim there is hard evidence through rigorous measurement that show that air filters have ZERO ability to improve mpg. K&n drop in filter less dirt than the OEM.

I bought my k&n washable based on lower cost of ownership. It was $40 off ebay. Better mpg just on the filter is debatable. Your own driving habits and gas source have the most impact. There is a point when you get to the margin of diminisioning returns. The average driver should probably stop trying to squeeze more mpg out after you have done what you can to reduce weight, put in a better air filter, run SL load tires at higher psi, and maybe this borla muffler. Good luck

This study should end the debate but it doesn't seem to, if you ignore the facts.

    https://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/pdfs/Air_Filter_Effects_02_26_2009.pdf

Results show that clogging the air filter has no significant effect on the fuel economy of the newer vehicles (all fuel injected with closed-loop control and one equipped with MDS). The engine control systems were able to maintain the desired AFR regardless of intake restrictions, and therefore fuel consumption was not increased.

I have since gone to 60K interval with my air filter with no loss in mpg.

That's a good read. Again that's why i bought the k&n for a lower cost of ownership vs buying multiple oem.

Yep, that was my reason too. The extra mpg was just a bonus i didnt plan for.

I only bought the K&N so i wouldnt have to buy OEM replacements and spend the money each time to replace. For me it made more sense to go reusable.
