Started to drive in the right lane at the speed limit. Cruise gives me worse mileage than controlling the speed with my foot. This was the commute to Disney Land this past weekend.

Cruise doesn’t adjust for changes in grade where your foot can allow the truck to slow a bit knowing you can regain it on the downslope. It does constant speed where you can do constant energy.

For the 2.7 keep the trans in S4 or S5. You can do cruise with it locked in to S5 and it helps with some of the constant shifting. However, if you are dealing with inclines, I recommend keeping cruise off and control the transmission yourself. It will also help keep the temps down on your transmission if you keep it in S4 or S5 with the torque converter locked up. I recommend using some type of scangauge to watch your torque converter state. I use the scangauge 3. I regularly get 22-23 mpg in town and 25-27 mpg on the highway.

525 miles on 21 gallons. I threw 2 gallons from a can in before work today and included that so I wasn’t running on empty. Normal commute with 20% city, freeway speed ~ 70.

not sure if it was mentioned in this thread but using a shorter serpentine belt to bypass the AC pulley gave me better MPG's and a tiny bit more power. I know im not kidding myself because aside from the MPG meter the transmission stop kicking down a gear on a couple inclines on my commute that I have taken almost every single day. this mod isnt for everyone but it works for my situation.

There are a few places around where you can get the Blue or E-0 gas. No ethanol. It's only available in the lower octanes, no 91/94, but it's usually been good for about a 5 to 7 MPG lift for me (in other vehicles). I'll be near one of those stations today and hope to see what it does in the Taco. The trick is timing it so that I can get as much of that in the tank as possible. Might be 3/4 of a tank full today. Would be better if I could get more in.

just moved to a place where they have a bunch of ethanol-free stations. there's a place callled GOGAS that only sells 87 E10 and 93E0. Great gas and my truck loves it.

I ended up getting nearly a full tank in. Was pricey but the fill up was worth it. No real improvement for me. I'm driving like a grandpa and getting around 15 to 16 MPG.

Just a thought for those of you who drive til MT - The fuel pump is in the gas tank and is cooled by the gas so you are probably shorting the life of the fuel pump by running it practically dry - also there's no longer a fuel filter, it's just a sock on the pump in the tank so if there is any debris in the tank the sock is more vulnerable when the tank is near MT.

There’s 3 gallons when the light comes on and a well around the pump. Trucks 10 years old on the original pump no issues. I never run out of gas but “low” is subjective since many fill up at 1/4 and some even 1/2 tank. People have their reasons but the pump won’t burn out or clog with 2-3 gallons still in there. Infrequent fill ups is an even better reason to turn it over more completely.

Last 7 tanks have all been 24 or better with 3 above 25. Total miles/total gallons at fill up. All we’re with loads of concrete, debris, or stuffed to the shell roof with blackberry brambles. The one I’m on now I’ve had the rack bars on for 1st a squeeze plank and now an extension ladder so I expect the run to end but mileage and reliability were the two main reasons I chose this model over others. Over 100k since I got it used almost 7 years ago and 1 battery, 1 set of pads & 1 set of tires beyond fluids & filters so check both boxes.
