I’d start out by bumping up your tire pressure to 35+. 31+ cold is a bit lower than I would run for pavement driving.

Next step you could do is get a used air dam from someone. Might give you 1mpg maybe.

Drive like a granny. That's what I do and I'm 2 mpg better than you with the same truck. :D Seriously, there's a really good thread around here somewhere with tips for better MPG in a Taco.

17.5MPG doing what? Freeway? Idling? Wheeling? Stop-n-go traffic? You running winter gas?? There are too many variables. Best thing is to adjust the display to bring up the current/instant MPG and adjust your driving habits accordingly.

And in all sincerity, if you want better MPG, just park your truck and get a Civic or scooter. When I had a super long commute, that is exactly what I did.

Like said 35 tp ,with a used airdam =+1to 2 mpg. Also find a place to drive below 60 mph on a flat road for a trip. I bet you will see 21mpg or more. 65 mph + kills the milage . If you can hack it (I cannot) drive 40 mph on the same road and you may get close to 30 mpg lol.
Edit wait for summer fuel = better also

That sounds about right for MPG. I got 17.5-18MPG when my truck was stock. Not I’m at 15.5MPG. Where you live and how cold/warm it is also factors into your MPG.

So that’s what I thought but manufacturers recommendation says 30 cold. Still jump it up to 35ish??

I had a 2012 1500 hemi that was getting 15 mpg on flat highway. The taco was suppose to be my civic at 19-24 mpg highway.

That's about the same as I was getting with my 5.7L Tundra. Moving to the Taco netted me almost a 5 mpg improvement, which I'm happy with. Most of my driving is on 60 MPH roads, ie, pretty ideal for gas mileage.

AT or MT? How many miles on it? For the AT, i think it learns your driving behavior after a while, as to optimize the gear switching.

I'd be happy with 17.5mpg on the freeway. I can get around 19 sometimes in town but that's usually it. I'd say you're in the ballpark of what everybody is getting.

There is one road where I go 45-55 on for about a half hour. I can get 22mph on that road going that speed but that's the best I've ever seen.

So I'll ask again, what are the conditions? Just because you're on the freeway, doesn't mean you're getting the EPA ratings. Wind, terrain, gas, elevation, traffic, can all affect MPG. If you're going 85MPH, you're not getting anywhere near EPA.

If I keep my speed at 70MPH, relatively flat, no harsh wind, I am 22-23MPG. V6, 4WD, DC. Stock everything, and stock PSI in tires (~32psi cold).

Depends on your driving. If I drive like a grandma I can get 22+ mpg even in city.

Drive while having fun brings it down 2-3 mpg

Seriously , if you drive 65 or less as compared to 70 + , it can make a big difference in mpg. , and only a couple mins. in time for the drive. The hardest part is being passed all the time and feeling like a slo-poke . Try it once .

Are you stock? Just going to LT tires can drastically affect your MPG. Lift makes it worse as well.

There was a discussion a couple of days ago about light commuter tires. There are some light, ~34lb tires that may help some to get max MPG.

I think you should be doing better at 65 MPH.
