    First, read this: https://gearheads.org/does-a-high-octane-rating-improve-gas-mileage/
This is truth with no room for ambiguity. Just because you saw a different result on one short trip does not mean anything. It's just one data point, and nothing can be derived from one data point.

Now, you CAN slightly improve your vehicle's efficiency and power by running a higher octane, but not because of the actual energy of the gasoline. Read this: https://www.edmunds.com/fuel-economy/to-save-money-on-gas-stop-buying-premium.html
As you can see, after running several tankfuls of the higher octane fuel through the engine, your ECU will adjust the timing slightly to allow for the higher octane. In a few instances, like towing or running at wide open throttle, you will get slightly better mpg and power. SLIGHTLY. And, when you stop running the higher octane, your engine control unit will adjust accordingly.

It's been tested time and time again over hundreds of thousands of miles and the efficiency gained from the higher octane does not offset the higher cost of the high octane gasoline. Meaning, you save a dime but spend more than a dime to save that dime. Sorry man, hope this explains it. Read this https://www.*************/improve-gas-mileage/ and follow the rules to make your vehicle the most efficient it can be. These tips are what works. Nothing else.

Dealer probably buys gas from a discount station running a higher percentage of ethanol.

    ^^ THIS.

Get a cheap car for long commutes. A few years ago I was commuting 90 miles R/T and I traded in my 2012 Taco for a small Yaris (yes a Yaris). I saved a ton on gas and was miserable the whole time. If I am ever in that position I will just park the Taco and get a cheap commuter vehicle.

Recently bumped up my tires from 35 to 40psi. I now get 18.5 to 19 with mostly city driving. And 20 to 22 highway.

Mine is at 31 as well. I have a short commute to work which is 6 miles each way and 90% of my total 6xxx miles is streets, not country streets but la streets.
I'm going to start manually tracking mpg cause I rarely get over 13 city even on the weekends
I know the trip avg is not entirely accurate but it must be ballpark

Im driving through LA through OC to SD freeways 200 miles round trip 6 days a week. (it sucks) 2017 MT TRD off road all stock haven't touched psi, just hit 10k today. I can get 22mpg going 65. Going more than that it seems to scale 1mpg less per 5 mph increase. Sounds weird but I would suggest sticking to #2 lane and cruise control at 70 with an audio book. Keeps me from trying to weave and pass people unnecessarily.
