MPG ON AN OFF-Road

Was your SR5 a 4x4? TRD offroad is a bit heavier plus your SR5 probably had tires better suited for mileage. I think they are a smaller/lighter more street oriented tire? For what it's worth my TRD off road per fuelly lifetime is 20.7.

 

Mine was getting 20-21 on Summer Fuel and has dropped down a couple on Winter Blend Fuel.

 

It was. Not making a big deal, but just wondering what other owners are getting.

 

See signature. I get about what everyone else is w/ manual transmission. 21,000 miles and I'd say +70% highway miles. I seem to get the best mpg going 45mph-60mph (20-24mpg). NH morning commute traffic likes to move fast though.. 75mph-80mph. I should just drive in the slow lane and save some $$.

 

18-21 on mine, just turned 6,000 miles.

 

might be partly what was noted above - a combo of winter fuel, different tires, etc. I'd give it some more time. It should improve. Best I ever got was 22.5.

 

I'm willing to bet it's the air dam. I drive my ORDCLB like an old man and unless the whole tank is a long trip its 19-20 per fill up.

 

I concur with the winter blend gas theory. Currently about 2500 miles on my 2017 AC OR. From day one, averaged 19/22. Last two fill-ups, getting 17/20. And yes, I drive it like a total pussy.

 

That doesn't answer the question. You could have the same all of those on both trucks.

 

I average 18. 6mt on bigger tires tho. Certainly is interesting to see such a drastic difference between OR and SR5 under what I'm assuming is identical circumstances?

Was the SR5 a 4x4? If not that's a solid 1 maybe 2 MPG right there. The air damn is good for at least 1 mpg. The goodyear AT's on the OR maybe another 0.5? Extra weight from TRD package additions could be good for another 1 mpg. Just some thoughts

 

I'm averaging 20-21MPG per tank with a mix of city/highway. The highway stretch has a fair amount of hills though or I could probably get better. On long non hilly highway I can get around 23-24MPG or better.

 

Depends on the wind. I can get a 4-5 mpg drop depending on that alone. Usually get right around 20 or so though on the highway. I have a cap, full prinsu, and slightly larger tires. I also am carrying about 600# at all times, but that shouldn't affect highway mpgs too much.

 

The lower part of the graph was a long trip that included some offroading. The huge jump up was on the way back with mostly highway driving and that was my 23.4 MPG average.

 

I'd shit my pants if I got 23.4 mpg for any extended period of time. I even drive pretty conservative.

 

I consistently get an in town city driving MPG of about 16.2 to 16.8. But that is where 90% of my trips are short 3 to 4 miles long or less, and lots of idling in there as well. Plus I have armor, a cap and a roof rack so it is what it is. Now in the highway I routinely get like others on here.....20 to 24 MPG. And I drive it like I am still making payments on it (which I am!!).

It's also high altitude driving here, which apparently helps some? I dunno.

 

I'm averaging 19-20 mpg, but I'm driving like a grandma most of the time. No ECT for me.

 

It was about a 250 or so mile trip on the highway. Then another 90 miles of a mix of offroad around the campsite and commuting in that fill up so I could have gotten better.

If I remember correctly, my trip MPG was about 26MPG on the way home.

 

It's also the higher-rolling-resistance tires on the OR.
On my commute into work, rolling hills at 30-40mph a few lights was high at 23 mpgs in the summer. Commute coming home, sames hills but lots of stop and go. It's been 11-12mpgs now that the weather is colder.
