The OR I had got about 17-19 in town, 21-23 highway. But it was an access cab, so it was lighter than your double cab.

I just traded a 2016 DCSB TRD Sport 2wd for a 2017 TRD OR 4x4 and I noticed a difference in mpg, but I was expecting that. My Sport averaged right around 20mpg over the 31k miles that I had it. I only have two fill-ups with the TRD OR, but it's averaged 18.7 between those. I'm perfectly happy with that, all things considered.

As others have said, the tires and lack of an air dam are probably making most of the difference. That and winter fuel. My dad had an SR5 and it was easy to get pretty decent mileage on it. Better than my Sport. I knew I was going to sacrifice some fuel efficiency with the OR and, to me, it's worth it.

It's a 4x4 with an ARE Overland Camper shell. I've had the truck over 14 months and it's got over 20K so the fuelly numbers are lifetime for the truck. I've also noticed that my Fuelly calculations are usually a bit better than the computer show. I'm also running the OV tune too.

My '16 OR got around 18 on avg before I put a 2" OME lift on it. now its around 14-15mpg. However, when I got home from Timberline Lodge at Mt. Hood, I averaged 29.3mpg but over a span of 68 miles. So yea, Short trips do kill ur mpg.

Your Fuelly numbers are a hell of a lot better than mine and it's pretty similar. Mine's got a manual transmission which costs me. I've never broken 20 in over 30K miles and I drive like a grandpa.

I'm averaging 22.9 over 22K mi, which includes 4WD over snow and backroads. I wonder if my ARE MX cap helps (been on since 300 mi). I tend to stay around the speed limit and under 65mph even if the limit is 70-80 mph. Auto tranny.

I've had a cap on mine as well since the 2nd tank of gas. If it does anything, it's not much.

I don't drive like a grandpa but my truck sees a lot of highway. I noticed these trucks drop a lot if only seeing city/traffic or if you put bigger/heavier tires on them. I would give a few mpg for that manual tho! Even my 2011 managed close to 20 mpg for the lifetime of the vehicle. I just looked at my retired 2011 TRD Offroad 4x4. I tracked it for 75K miles and it's lifetime mpg was 19.8. It's best tank shows 23 which is even better than the best I managed with this one. I think the thinner air up here helps some.

17 DCSB 4WD AT w/Tech at ~4500 ft elevation. I'm also at 20.7 lifetime (manual calculation) after around 13k miles, which includes a few fillups at like 7 mpg off-road. Mostly highway though, as my commute is 80 miles round trip.
In the summer it wasn't uncommon for me to see 24-25, but my best full tanks are 23.5 mpg.

I was getting 23-24.5 this summer. With the change over to winter fuel, I'm down to 20-21.

I babied my OR on stock tires and got around 18 if I kept right in the sweet spot and easy accel from a stop and no flooring it.

I then got new tires and knew nothing of what it means to have heavier tires. ( I came from a diesel truck that didn't care how much the tires were). With the E load range I now 16mpg average but I don't do a lot of driving and when I do it's stop and go. I've also learned I have the average it displays because it counts Idle time and that has brought down my good average of 16 to 15.

My very last car was a Honda Civic that got 30mph anywhere from 0-80 mph and that's hard to forget.

Was your SR5 4x4 because that will make a difference

Before buying one, I would do more research than one guy on Tacomaworld saying it's 2 - 3 mpg benefit with the air dam.....

I'm basically stock on my OR still (only minor mods, and wheels/tires are stock, no lift). Fuely is in my sig, lifetime for the vehicle. Wide assortment of driving in the 14 months I've owned it. Worst tank I've had is 19.something, best is almost 24.

I have a stock 2017 TRD OR DCSB only 2wd, and my average is right around 20 mpg. I do all city driving, no highway whatsoever.

When mine was new the best I could do was 15.

Now, I get between 17.5 and 19.5 per tank and 10-12 towing. Highest ever was a smidge over 20 and that was just cruising flat land at 50mph in beautiful warm weather for the whole day which is generally pretty uncharacteristic driving for me. My overall average hangs around 17.8.

2017 OR DCSB Truck has 9500 miles on it and I average 20-21mpg hand calculated, although I find the computer is pretty accurate as well. I can get a little higher on long highway trips.

I drive it pretty nice and travel a lot of 45-65mph highway but we are in outskirts of Seattle (mountains) so it is very hilly. My wife gets considerably worse mpg. ECT button always on and she has more of a lead foot. She gets closer to 17mpg.

Your driving style and how often you let it sit idle will affect your mpg more than an air dam.
