As mentioned, it could just be the bumper mod or pics, but it sure looks like it's lifted.

I have a TRD air filter and HPS intake tube, that might help with the mpg a bit.

After air filter you might check your spark plugs.

As an experiment you might try a tank of premium gas if you have been using regular. I have been getting around 20 MPG combined on premium.

Have you cleaned your MAF and throttlebody recently? Probably different opinions here, but I think it helps. Also city driving and stop/go do kill milage.

I find engine temp and air temp play a role. And winter vs summer blend fuel. A short hop in town, sure I get mid to low teens for milage. Once warmed up I can see high teens in town.

2019 SR5 with bed topper/camper shell. Stock tire size but in a AT 10 ply LT (Faulken Wildpeak). I keep them at about 35psi. No lift in front but Ironman 4x4 Medium leaf pack in back.

This is all from instantaneous milage on the dash, so take with a grain (or lots if you prefer) of salt.

Holy moly i get better than that with 295's my year average is 14L/100 or 16.8mpg that includes towing.

What i found with these trucks is driving habits is the make or break for fuel economy. I don't do over 100kph, soft accelerations, coast decelerations as much as possible. Not to mention pay attention to the wind i have never had a vehicle suffer from the wind as bad as this truck.

What rpm does the truck cruise at most of the time?

I run a stock suspension and Bridgestone Dueler AT 002 stock size. Speeds on the Autobahn mostly between 120 and 160km/h, mostly min 60km distance with nasty inclined hills. Usage indicates between 11.0 and 13.9L/100km. Hardly using ECT, buy also hardly punch the gas.
Disconnect the battery and re-connect after a few mins. That resets the last calculations. However, best is to calculate yourself after every gas filling to get a true value and not a Toyota value. And man, exchange that air filter of yours asap!

It is the second worse (in regards to being affected by wind) that I have ever owned, the Wrangler JK was far worse. In my Tacoma, I have driven the exact same route many times, 180 miles (all interstate) southwest, which is often nearly dead in to the wind, and the difference coming and going is a solid 3-5 mpgs.

2018 Off-Road. I inflate the tires to what I read off the door-jab plate. I want to say 28 psi, but that varies a psi here or there with temperature changes. Factory everything. I am running Michelin Defender LTX M/S.

The majority of my driving is highway speeds. I try to keep it below 70. I get 19-21 on the highway, maybe 15-18 stop and go / city.

I mean jeeps basically have the aero dynamics of a shoe box so that would make sense.

Just to confirm with what someone else said here, your tires can make a huge difference (maybe the most) next to your engine tune. Then the fuel blend depending on where you are and time of year, elevation, added weight, etc.., etc... You get the point. I think if your 3rd gen is getting less than 13mpg overall then get a tuneup and look for the little things that create drag. If it's 14 and up...that's kinda ballpark for us all isn't it?

My sport is also stock, with the exception of stock size ridge grapplers @ 30-32psi.
15-16 overall mpg since new. Unloaded, no passengers.

I would lower the PSI on the tires. 40 is too much, in my opinion. Truck calls for 30PSI cold, but I keep them around 32PSI cold. I also live in Central Texas, and we're already in triple digits temperatures some days so that will definitely give way to air expansion in the tire.

I am mostly on the highway at 70mph and can average 21mpg's (I have the TRD Pro with the factory lift) depending on how windy it is. I made a two hour trip recently driving into 18mph winds and averaged 15mpg's

And in comparison, the Tacoma is the same shoe box with a slightly crushed leading edge :D

That is why I like the EU system with scientific ratings.

Very true! IF it were my 2008 FJ Cruiser with that short windshield thats even more upright and requires 3 short windshield wipers....that's more of an equivalent to a jeep box shape.
