I wouldn't expect stellar mpg. They need to save something to incentivize Gen 5 buyers when the time comes. My guess is 4-5 mpg improvements across the board compared to Gen 3. If Gen 4 non hybrids attain high 20s that would be amazing.

That'd be my guess also. Probably sticker 22-25 mpg on a base model. real world mpg would be around 20ish... Hybrid will get worse highway mpg like the tundra because of the added weight. Don't think they are going for mpg on this go around... marginal improvement at best.

A turbo may require 93 octane so you have too watch out it may offset the cost if it requires more expensive fuel.

current tundra is a turbo and only requires 87. Power kicks on pretty low on that also... and gets no where near claimed mpg for most users lol.

This is what I am worried about. Tundra boasts pretty decent numbers, but realistically its not even close to reality

The Hybrid max is optional on other lower trims like TRD Sport & Platinum.

Former Prerunner owner (200k+ before trade-in) who switched to Ford Ranger Tremor. One of the best things I love about the Ranger is the mpg...15k miles now with 87 grade and getting constant 21mpg and I have a 1" inch level kit on the front. Zero issues and I've driven it hard to all my fishing/camping holes up in the Sierra/Lake Tahoe areas.

Paying off my Ranger in early 2025 and while I love the new Ranger Raptor, it might be around $60k which is not my cuppa tea so might switch back to the Taco but really dislikiing that all the models apart from WildPeak and TRD have dropped front end (aka like the GMC Canyons and Colrado). Even at that, taco Wildpaek might be $45k easily minus dealership markups so maybe I should just put a 2" inch lift and 33s on my Tremor and calling it a day.

The 2.3L Ford turbo is bloody way better than my old V6 in the Taco ....better gas milege and torque from the get go. Glad Taco is finally getting similar turbo engines cos their old school V6 is way underpowered and current body style is really meh. I'm coming from a BMW X5 turbo diesel so well versed with turbo engines....with good maintenance, these things do last well. And having driving 2 Teslas in the family, I'm not a EV guy at all.

dropped front end? The rake? Without rake if you put stuff in the rear it will squat. Do you mind the squat look?

^ They dropped the front to achieve better gas #s...thats all. I bet gas milege on both TRD and WildPeak are worse than the stock models. But waiting for the hybrid engine and see where that stands but either way, it doesnt look like any of the newer offerings with mid range packages will be under $50K (incl insane dealer markups). Toyota dealers are gonna be grinning from ear to ear to milk customers when it hits the retail lot.

I guess I'm just better off putting a 2" lift on mine and putting 33s and calling it a day with a paid off truck ;).

The RX 350 gets 21/28 and the RX 500h gets 27/28. The RX 500h is a similar setup to the i-Force Max.

Most people are gonna be let down by the MPG. Its going to be a small bump just like it was on the Tundra. The hybrid might be 2 mpg better than the volume turbo motor. All these people hoping for a EPA-rate 30 mpg Tacoma are going to be disappointed. Toyota has plenty of CAFE credits from their hybrids and doesn't need a super high MPG pickup. Also, the move to small turbos is for emissions not MPG.

Small bump? When Tundra switched from the naturally asperated (NA) 5.7 to the new 3.4TT/hybrid, it saw a 30% bump in city mpg and 25% for highway as well as a 12%/30% bump in HP/TQ.

While completely different engines the Tacoma is moving from the NA 3.5 to a new 2.5T/hybrid that sees a 14% increase in hp and a huge 45% increase in torque. If we were to use a similar efficiency curve as the Tundra we can reasonably expect to see 24/27/25.

The Hybrid doesnt get worse on the highway it just gets better in city driving...the Pro is worse all around
