A 15% improvement in mileage, combined with dramatic power and torque improvements, is actually pretty cool

It is pretty cool, totally agree. Just not sure why Toyota made the choices they did when it comes to the new design. If they were trying to be more flashy then functional, it is disappointing and may cause issues for the long term of the truck. The attached video points out a few areas of concern

Yea, if it’s true. My tank average runs about 18.5mpg over the course of a year. Stock 3rd gen OR running mostly flat pavement. 15% would move that up to 21mpg. I hope the improvement is actually higher.

Not until people actually own the truck, and are stock. And obviously not climbing mountain passes.

Remember the “ECO” button? Pepperidge farms remembers.

Seriously, I had a car with this feature and gas was at or near $1. The button definitely made a difference in power.

I would like the new Tacoma to have this feature. Or else.

That feature is there, although it is a knob now.

I could not find it. (Via pics and videos)

Also… why not Plug in Hybrid? Why only 40hp.

If the 2.4T manual gets 25ish mpg and comes in a 6’ bed I might skip the hybrid that I was looking forward to for the last 4 years. Or I might keep my 20 for the next 10 until the 4th gen gets the PHEV update

I can't answer everything else you're asking, but here's a video discussing the drive modes. I set the time in the URL so it should start at the appropriate time (19:14).

When the Toyota Highlander went from 3.5 V6 to 2.4T it only gained 1 MPG, expecting very similar for the Tacoma too.

It’s unfortunate but I think in real work driving that’s exactly what’s gonna happen.

    We shall see.:)

Im still taking an MT turbo Tacoma for a rip as soon as they hit the lots.

I’d expect a significant increase on the highway while running just 4 cylinders but around town numbers will be sensitive to how much boost your right foot asks for between stoplights.

Whatever numbers Toyota finally publishes, we’ll probably see a lot of variance reported by owners here, both higher and lower.

Hundred percent. If I make the switch, the stick shift will be the only option
