I remember as a kid, my dad bitching when gas hit 17.9 cents a gallon!!!! Probably early to mid 60's.

For the first year I had my Taco I was constantly checking the mpg and logging fuel ups with fuelly. I stopped a few months ago. I just don’t care. It’s a truck, not a Prius.

My dad crossed the boarder into Arkansas City, Kansas in the early 60’s. I remember the sign was 11.9 cents a gallon. He paid cash too.

I agree, I’m just about over Fuelly every fill up. Maybe every 4 months, 3 times a year, do a batch to know where you’re trending (keeping winter in mind), but every fill up?

My truck of the future is going to run on millennial's tears and gasoline from 'murican shale oil, thank you very much.

I keep track of MPG's on every tank of each vehicle. It's what I do and will continue to do.

I was getting 14city and 16-17hwy. A coworker recommended that I remove my front sway bar for a smoother ride off and on road. After removing my front sway bar, I'm currently (since the last two months) and consistently getting 16-17city and 19-20hwy. I made a six hour drive in February and got 400+ miles from one tank. Has anyone else experienced this after removing the front sway bar? And I'm far from a stock truck.

I've removed mine. I don't have any MPGs changes and wouldn't expect any. I do like the ride a lot more without it.

It's a bit early, but could they have changed over to the summer fuel blend when you took it off?

I didn't expect it either. But it happened, and I'm not complaining. I don't think the switch has been made, yet, especially as early as mid-January. I agree, I prefer the ride without it as well.

Are you talking the Air Dam on the front? The front valance is the middle piece of the bumper by Toyota part names. OR has a black one, Sport is color matched.

I keep track of my MPG in a field notes book I keep in my truck. I'm maybe missing 3 fill ups since owning the truck. I also got a scanguage to monitor realtime mpg. I saw an increase in 3mpg on average after purchasing the scanguage and having the ability to monitor what my truck is doing in real time.

Coming from a diesel jetta that got 65mpg I can see where OP is coming from on "why do you care" but I think, since our trucks aren't really that efficient anyways is all the more reason to care. I have a buddy with a long-travel FJ cruiser set up for overland. He can only go 150mi before needing to refuel... 150mi.... that's it... So I mean if you're only ever crawling the mall with a gas station on every corner, sure don't worry about it. But if you're out in the sticks and its just you and your truck.... You should probably start paying attention at some point.

Why I Log MPG into a log book?
    1. It gives me something to do while I'm waiting at the gas station
    2. It also lets me know if anything is wrong with the truck.
    3. I also write down modifications, so I can guesstimate on what parts are adding negative mpg to my vehicle.

First off your math is wrong.(That would be 1500 dollars)
Second... I don't care about MPG that much other than getting 14 in a truck is worse than a tundra, and I would rather have a tundra if that were the case. I get roughly 18... Life of the truck is 19.3.

As someone who once posted a "why is my MPG lower than the window sticker" thread, I will say this: I wasn't complaining, I was curious. I had another late model Toyota (FJ) that actually outperformed its window sticker numbers. Then I got the Taco, which had better window sticker numbers than the FJ, I drive the new truck on the same commute, I drive it the same way I drove the FJ. So when I got numbers that were 4-5MPG below what the sticker said, I wondered if something was wrong with my new truck. Of course the usual know-it-alls jumped in with how I don't understand anything about life or the universe, blah blah blah. But apparently I'm not the only person who made this observation. Really I could give a crap about an extra 50 cents per fill up, it's not about that. I love the truck. But if I can't ask a question like that, what is the point of having a forum?

Elevation humidity and temperature also play into the real world MPG. You’ll notice in advertising they’ll say “UP TO XX mpg”

Didn't seem to matter in the FJ. It got 20-22MPG all year round for almost 4 years. I haven't moved, my elevation is exactly the same with both vehicles.

This math doesn’t sound right. I think it’s closer to an $800 difference.

I knew a guy like that. He was an engineer. Had a bound notebook in his truck at all times with about 10 years of MPG details he kept. He was oblivious, of course, to the loud-ass noise that meant he had a bad wheel bearing.
