    Hi all,

If you drive 125,000 miles at 20 MPG, that's 6,250 gallons used.
If you drive 125,000 miles at 19 MPG, that's 6578.9 gallons used.

    Difference of 328.9 gallons.
    X $3.00 per gallon = $986.

That's a lot of miles in a year.

On the other hand, if you drive 12,500 a year, that's only a difference of $98.60 a year.
I drive about half of that. So that would be about $50 a year.

It's like driving further looking for lower gas prices.

    20 gallons at $0.02 cheaper a gallon is $0.40
    Across the 600 gallons, that's $12.00.

That won't affect your net worth to a large degree.

Buying a house or renting a house will cost you far greater on a monthly basis.

Sorry seeing you're from Olympia made me think of rancid.

Man you guys all complain try dealing with Canadian fuel prices

    Bc is 1.50 a L
    Here in Ontario it's 1.35

Your fuel when adjusting for exchange rate and L vs gallon is about 70-80 cents /L for us in Canadian dollars.

It takes all of 10 seconds to do while you're filling up. I think it's pretty cool to have that level of data. I think if I was buying used and someone showed me a spreadsheet of every fill up since new, it would be appreciated. It is definitely a good indicator that you take maintenance seriously.

need to learn more about this stuff
Or maybe I obviously had a typo and added a 0 since practically NO ONE drives 125,000 miles a year. Lack of common sense and thinking makes me understand why there are “why do I get 1/4 less mpg than jimmy does in his truck” threads.

Money means something to everyone. Just cuz someone has more than you means you get to judge them with your passive aggressive comment? Awesome.
Also, $150 savings was based off of driving a hundred twenty five thousand miles in one year so it's actually quite less for nearly everyone. Incredible that I even have to point this out.
    MPG = WGAS.

The solution to all this seems so simple to me I’m not sure how no one on here seems to utilize it.
    E944BBCB-352A-451D-9C80-2AD8FF04EEEE.jpg
Easy: Start with a Full Size 3/4 Ton Gasser on 35's with 4.11 Gears and a 6.4L Hemi (10.2 MPG)

    BF9D1AB3-78F4-46FF-9EE5-44F0220F66BC.jpg

Than: Trade it in a a new DCSB OR, add lift, tires, lights, and anything else you want. And ALWAYS feel good that you’re saving almost $200/mth in fuel compared to your previous vehicle.

    See problem solved!
    (More money for MODS!!!)

    20,000 miles per year/ 12mths = 1666.67 miles per month

    1666.67/ 10.2mpg = 163.39 gallons/month (Ram Power Wagon)
    1666.67/ 16.5mpg (lifted w/ 33's) = 101.01 gallons/ month (Taco)

    163.39-101.01=62.38 gallons saved/ month

    62.38 gallons * $2.89/gallon = $180.27/ month * 12 months/ year = $2163.33

Almost $2200 less a year than my old truck. Wow doing the math just shows me what a jackass I was for driving that Power Wagon...

I traded in a 2013 4x4 dblcab sb for a 2018 lb and I didn't get a increase in fuel economy but worse due to the environment I live in. I guess I didn't know the truck ran higher rpms to get its hp? I have hills and mountains in ny, better fuel economy in the city and backroads because she doesn't run high rpms steady.

Dang, I live at 4000' elevation here in Idaho and have mountains that summit around 9500' elevation and am getting average 19.5 mpg. With my 4000 lbs boat I get about 16 mpg.

IDK, like the OP said does it REALLY matter... if you take a 5000 mile road trip (across the entire US and back) and get 16.5 mpg vs 19 mpg you’ll spend an extra $115. You seriously want me to believe if you have the time off and money for a 5000 mile road trip you can’t swing an extra $115? It seems very unlikely. Though i suppose everyone has a different threshold.

If MPGs are your thing a diesel Colorado or a Prius could be just the ticket (this is NOT aimed at the poster i responded too).

I just enjoy keeping track of the MPG of each of my vehicles and the motorcycle. Have done it since each were new. Doesn't matter to me if others care or not - it's just what I do. If you don't keep track, it doesn't bother me either. The one thing we have in common and can see eye to eye on is we like Tacoma's.

I only care about MPGs when I see a big change.... even though I know its my fault. Here is some wack math...

I had 20 MPGs ave when the truck was new
I added heavier wheels and 265s and it changed to 17 MPGs.
I added a lift and it dropped into the 16s.
I put the stock wheels back on with 285/75s.

The 33 inch tires changed the Speedo and Odo by 2%. So my speed and mileage read less than actual. This should make the computer calculate a lower than actual MPG. (it reads fewer miles for the same amount of fuel used). I expected my MPGs to drop with the new bigger tires because they are bigger and the computer is calculating with a 2% odo error. Double whammy. But now my computer calculated tank ave. has gone back up 18.2 MPGs.

I know the wheels I'm using now are lighter and the tires are the same weight as the smaller ones... but curious huh?

Having owned a truck before, I knew and was comfortable with the fact that my MPG is going to be lower than a passenger car. I'm the type that will rent a car for a long road trip, anyways. But I get some people's concerns. I tend to think that the people who complain the loudest are either first time truck owners or pedal mashers getting 9 MPG.

LOL nooooo...unless maybe you had a tiny regular cab 4cyl 5lug. But even then not 30mpg.

Best I ever got with my 04 4x4 v6 was just shy of 20mpg, all highway trip...when it was bone stock except for the supercharger. Usually I averaged 18.

Now...I get about 14mpg. And premium CA gas...

    No its not...
