Camping or as the Aussie say caravaning is really popular over there. Chebbie can't make the trip, but you can rent a fully contained unit and plan your trip to see the outback and then get in some fishing time. My friend told me the things in Australia that everyone says will kill you are just as cautious about you as you are of them...even the crocs (unless they are hungry and you look like a good meal). It is expensive getting here, but caravaning will be more economical than hotels:thumbsup:. Never to early to start planning :D. To enjoy it, you would need at least a month.

a nice little Hilux or LC with a RTT will do. tents have better views than hotels.
thought i was going to have an opportunity to work down there once upon a time. was planning on negotiating a Hilux for a company vehicle

Those pictures from the parts of Australia I saw could be from the New South Wales area or Southern New Zealand. I will look through my pictures when I get home and send you some to keep your fantasies in tact:D:thumbsup:.
I am sure you could get a Hilux diesel set up for camping. I saw quite a few with a flatbed set up with a big storage box and an RTT on top. I have some pictures but it will have to wait until I dig through them as I put them on an external drive to save space on the phone. Add 1 fantasy to Bucket list..

i think the original Croc Hunter series with Steve Irwin started my obsession with a backroad journey through Australia. totally terrified of spiders and snakes and probably 85% of the critters in AUS but watching him and how he talked about the ecosystem down there gave me a different appreciation for them. still terrified but they have their place in the world. and the landscape jsut looks crazy beautiful and so different than anything i've seen firsthand.

@johneman when I think of Aussie campers two things come to mind. i could see myself cruising around in one of these for a month or two
something like this - a UEV Conqueror. its like a pop up tent camper/mil surplus trailer on steroids, very cool design
    upload_2022-11-17_20-22-4.jpg
or something like a Camp King Ute with RTT
