    SECOND THOUGHTS

Uh-oh, starting to doubt how hard-core off-roading I wanna go with this truck. I mean, out to my buddy's cabin on a marginal at best dirt road with a few rather sticky mud pits ... no worries. Out to Jim creek and Knik glacier in Winter when everything is mostly frozen up ... probably no issue.

    BUT sliders and bumpers????
Will they only encourage me to get stupid and tear up my truck? During Summer I have a Ranger side by side 6x6 I can use to trail ride.

My gut is telling me my money would be better invested in a kids UTV side by side for when the grandkids come up for the Summer. Gonna keep my eye on this and see if one goes on clearance later this Fall/Winter.

    :notsure: Random MooseMan thoughts.

    Good morning Martin

You’ve got 6ish months to figure that out. At least it’s on the mental menu, so you can grind over it for a while.

STFU!!! Sliders are a mandatory add on. My recommendation is BAMF. There is no discussion on this.

I don't think you have much to worry about. My wife's truck came with sliders. Most of her driving is from the house to work, but I've yet to see her tackle a curb or take out a grocery cart.

So back to the sliders, yes, you need them. BAMF talk to J. Plus!!!! They are door ding guards as well....two girls one cu....I mean...two birds one stone, yeah thats it.

Bumper is optional, I would recommend it as you have vast opportunities to hit wildlife, trees, rocks, your mailbox, etc.

Make the grandkids walk, shit we had to walk back then...up hill, both ways....in the fucking blizzard.

If you are gonna add the weight of bumpers and sliders, you likely need to upgrade the suspension. I did the lightest sliders and semi-hidden winch bumper I could find to avoid having to dig into the suspension. I like the peace of mind the sliders give, especially when shopping.

sliders are just handy for ease of roof and bed access
of course maybe not as handy on minivan, 4 door taco... idk

hey, you ever going to post a different picture of your new ride other than the "this is the windshield" one on the first page?
maybe one that shows the bedside decal?
    just a thought

I have pretty much full armor so it is protected when needed but I don’t let it encourage me to take it rougher places than I’d want to go and tear it up

Current thoughts are sliders and a streamlined light armor center section front bumper with winch. I WILL NOT be upgrading suspension, beyond maybe Bilstein 5100s a few years down the road. I've read about too many complications and drawn out sagas involving lifts and heavy armor.

Maybe it's because I am older or really just DGAF anymore but I haven't worried about everybody's trends or ideas on here of exactly how I should build my truck or how it should be used. I know I'm just a grumpy old bitch but it is what it is I guess. I have built with my needs in mind and the truck is used as a tool to get us where we want to go. I started with the first tacoma with the 2.7 tryng to keep things light and have kinda just carried some of that over to this truck. I did upgrade the suspension but the truck also had 53k on it when I got it.
The front bumper for better clearance but its aluminum so lighter weight yet still mounts the winch. Steel skids because, well, you know the terrain here and we have rocks. Sliders to keep grocery carts from dinging the doors. The rear bumper allowed me to move the spare to outside the bed and with the dual swingouts I can still open with the camper attached yet freed up some much needed bed space.
The suspension is very mild with the 5100's up front and 2 1/2" lift Eibach coils I only have about 1 3/4 lift but the 33's clear just fine and I have super CV angles and it rides and handles great especially with the Camburg UCA's. The rear I had to go a little beefier to support the camper but It was built as needed and with Deaver progressive leaf packs it rides really well.
I don't have all the cool overland racks and stuff all over the truck and have kept it clean and simple for now at least. About the only "big" thing I have left I wouldn't mind adding is a dorkel. I'm on the fence about the looks but it serves a purpose and I do drive through water. These things are what we make of them from stock to wild and I just chose my own path to suit our needs.
