I think it's been asked in this thread before but.... when I first attempted to do this, I didn't remove anything other than the shield, after some scraped knuckles and a bunch of swear words, I got the accumulator out. When I went to put in a new straight line, because of the weird angles, I ended up stripping the brass union fitting on my replacement line. Insult to injury, I ended up putting the accumulator back on to fight another day. So, the question... what's everyone's tips and tricks to doing this mod in regards to having enough room to work in that space? I have all the proper tools to do the job that wasn't the issue. What do you guys remove before starting the job? I have larger/wider hands so it's a bit more tough to get into tight places (yeah, yeah... on with the jokes).

I have said to remove the cat support. The two upper bolts aren't easy, but way easier than the top shield bolt. With it out of the way, there is much more space to work. The HF line wrench doesn't have a joint in it, but there is plenty of room to use it with the cat support out.

Nice! That's the black bracket looking thing with the two bolts, right? I haven't looked closely enough but does that bracket also need to be unscrewed from the cat as well? Anyone know what the torque specs are with these two bolts when I'm putting it back together?

    Yes. That's the one.

There is one bolt in the flange of the cat.

I'm a torque nazi as I tend to strip things if I don't use one, but really, snug with a dab of locktite on the uppers and anti-sneeze on the cat flange will do you good.

Sweet. And same here... if it wasn't for torque wrenches, I'd have many broken toys. I'll try to hunt down the torque specs in a service manual online. Thanks for the tips, man! Hoping this second attack at it will go more smoothly with the extra room.

I don't know, but it is right next to the heat shield. One 14mm bolt in the flange and two 14mm bolts in the bell housing.

I just finished swapping out my elbow and swapping in @Shellshock 's old accumulator with the dremel mod.

My safety wire was still doing good, but it was not a permanent solution as it tweaked the upper line when I loosened it. That made me struggle to not crossthread the fitting when putting it back in.

This reaffirms my opinion that the dremel mod in the first place is the way to go.

I think it was @M1Awolf that really kicked that off? I might be mistaken?

I also put some Noico on the heat shield. I'm interested in how that helps with the driveline noise.

Does it feel the same as the hard line?

I mean technically with the Dremel mod it is still an accumulator, it will still dampen slightly i would think, just not as drastic

From the quick drive it felt like the friction zone was narrower.

No. The accumulator is 100% gone when no vacuum / negative pressure can be pulled to restrict flow. Kind like if you put a toothpick under a suction cup. It doesn't take much to kill the effect, but a nice channel about the size of the ports guarantees it.

It's a BS thread. The more chitchat in here, the more it is seen by others. If it is on the main page, even the 2nd Gen MTs might catch it.

    So, it's all good.

    :rofl::rofl:

I shudder most any time when they show up in the 3rd Gen Dumbgeon, but not only do they have the PoS accumulator, they had a thread or two about the ADM.

    Interesting.

I searched there quite a while after a few breadcrumbs were posted here in other threads. One just had a video of the straight up coupler that doesn't work for us, and the other (that I can remember) only helped to ID the location. I could be wrong though or there were more threads. My main goal, since a lot of folks here were struggling like I was, was to get a full how-to going. There was lots of great help from other folks here.

I had heard mention of it so when I went searching their thread is what came up. That's kind of what told me what the damn thing was then I found the third gen version and here I am. A much happier driver :D
