    Hey everyone!
So I did the hack your accumulator mod, the clutch felt great! Very soft pedal and I thought I still had a little bit of air somewhere but wasn't sure. I bled it again and it seemed better but here's the part I have a question about. The engage point seems to have changed(the position in the range the clutch travels where it starts to engage) and my pedal now feels harder(not harder then before I did the modification) but harder than immediately after and there seems to be less feeling than I first felt in the pedal.

My question is, could I have not removed enough material and the accumulator is still partially working or something? Or maybe I need to bleed again? From my understanding, I thought air in the lines would make it feel overly squishy for a portion of the throw. It just doesn't feel like it did the first few days after I did the hack your accumulator mod. I might just be crazy. Thanks for any help!

The pedal feel and engage point should not change after the ADM. If it is just a small change, I wouldn't mess, as you will adapt to it. If the pedal was soft, then there would definitely be air in there.

@TeecoTaco has posted that small amounts of air can work their way up the line and get purged.

If your dremeled accumulator looks like the 9th pic in the 1st Post, you should be good to go. It needs to be a trough that connects through the walls of the existing bores:

If you do not like it over time, I am certain that someone here has a junked accumulator that they can send you to swap back to stock.

Per the usual tonered, thank you! It's just hard for me to gauge how deep the channel should be. I would say mine looks pretty similar but maybe not as pretty... I guess the channel I took out was about 1/8" deep, just a guess, it could be more.

How easy is it to go too deep on the accumulator you think?

    You're welcome!

Similar but ugly is just fine. The trough only needs to be about the same area as the ports to remove negative pressure from that metal disk.

I do not know the depth shown because I did the brake line elbow hack. Unfortunately, I doubt that anyone measured their dremel mod.

The body of the accumulator is just a simple, cast or forged block. So, you can go just about the entire depth in that area. :D

I think I'm going to take it back off and remove some more material.... I can't leave anything alone. Ok thanks again!

Oh and I'm definitely clamping the line this time!

    You're welcome.

The urge to tinker is strong. Just be gentle on the flare fittings. They don't like much abuse.

FWIW, I made the channel depth about the same as the diameter of the ports. Also, I didn't cut any wider than the ports.

Just did mine with the autozone parts. I never thought the shifting could be so smooth...I thought all that clutch chattering was me being brainless on some shifts and often worried that my clutch was already starting to go out.

The accumulator is an absolute abomination to any manual tranny. Do it as soon as you can, and if you're not too inclined to get your hands all cut up while trying to contort them around hot and sharp pieces of metal, pay someone to do it for you. Totally worth it.

Thanks to all who contributed to the thread with write ups and pictures!

In case anyone wanted to see another "hacked" accumulator... Here is mine that i only had to take off twice! It's not the prettiest job but seems to work so I guess it isn't too boogered up.

I think you got 'er. Maybe an insurance cut? :D

If it is working, that is all that's important.

    Enjoy!
