Well a spacer lift will make your ride stiffer and will weaken your mount points over time... but your CVs will still be happy!

There are two kinds of spacers (actually, 3 but we don't really have the 3rd option on our trucks). There are spacers that mount on top of the coil pack, and spacers that mount inside the coil pack.

Top of coil pack spacers are easier to install; remove the coil pack, install the spacer, reinstall the coil pack. The bad thing about top of the coil pack spacers are that they tend to make the suspension bottom out on rough terrain which can damage the upper ball joints. You could add upper control arms (UCA's) to minimimize ball joint failure, but by the time you spend the money for UCA's, you might as well just get coilovers instead.

Inside the coil pack spacers don't have this problem, but they make the ride harsher because the spring is already compressed a bit. Plus, inside the coil pack spacers are harder to install; you must disassemble the coil pack. This requires a Coil Spring Compressor is you want to do it yourself.

Between the two, inside the pack spacers are probably better for most folks.

Then there is the polyurethane vs. metal spacers. Polyurethane spacers make the ride marginally smoother, but will wear out (i.e., compress) over time. Metal spacers ride rougher but don't wear out.

Coilovers are probably the best choice, though they are much more expensive. You can get away with spacers for under $100, but CO's will set you back at least $600. I will probably bite the bullet and go with CO's. They, like top-of-coil spacers will bolt right in; no special tools needed. Whether you go with spacers or coilovers, the differential drop kit is a must. Keep an eye on your CV boots too; if they start to leak, you may need to upgrade to a stronger boot. CV Boots are a P.I.T.A. to install, too.

Hope this clears it up a tiny bit for you Ben...

So just to simplify what Colton said, If your going to be doing any kind of off roading go with CO's, that is what I am running and it is pretty smooth off road.

And with 3" you can swing your truck door open at the gas tank and not have to worry that you might hit the cement block:D

Yeah there's a few that have them... I had on board air on my 03. Search for krookz build. The thread is closed but still accessible. I believe he had on board air. I've seen others but don't remember the usernames.

i was thinking of building an air tank in the rear bumper, but then i thought that i don't want a bomb behind the truck.... I might build one into the headache rack though. My friend's got one in colorado, and he just mounted a tank to the roof rack.

So my question is do you even need a tank? I found a small compressor That I think I could mount where my spare tire was if i fab some kind of protective cover.

i have a little compressor i keep under the rear seat. but I could help you build a mount for it where the tire goes. I haven't looked at the first gen spare tire carrier but you could probably just put a rod from one frame runner to the other and mount it to that. it would also beef up the frame. and you could build a skid plate to mount to that bar too, and put a skid under that whole area depending on if the drive shaft is in the way. but then again you could make a hole in the skid for the drive shaft to slip through. then if you ever broke a shaft it wouldn't slap around under the truck. I don't know, I'm just throwing out ideas....

That doesn't sound that bad at all actually. I see a fab/mod day in the future.

Its really not all that hard to put together. Just someone to fab up brackets for it... can be done for sub $300 by my estimation.

Side note... Colter, saw you driving down 7th earlier. You never saw me and I didn't have enough time to cause a commotion lol
