MT owners, would you still buy a Tacoma if the MT weren't available?

I went out of my way to find my 5spd as well...just something so cool
about the feel of the transmission after it gets broken in with some miles on it.
It just drops into gear now with a couple fingers on the shift lever.

But to the topic, not sure about the Automatic?
I'm getting older and for sure feel it after using the clutch in stop and go.

I'm always going to have a pickup, so if no MT available
down the road then i'll have to consider the AT or drive
this one until it dies and i'll cross that bridge then.

If it's not available with a MT I won't even bother looking at it!

I flipping hate auto's and I know sadfully so that at some point in the future that MT's are going to be something that only museums will have. That said, if the Tacoma didn't have a MT and the Frontier did, I would've bought the Frontier instead. I have to agree though, the mechanically operated throttle is 10x better than what's in my 2014 Tacoma. But I'll still take this over an auto any day of the week and 2x on Sunday.

    I can't state this enough... I hate auto's.

i despise the slush box of a transmission that came in my long term camry rental. push the pedal, then wait while it decides what it wants to do. so bad.

I'm on my 3rd Taco, and I would not buy a 4th if they were only available in automatics.

Everyone has an opinion, personal preferences, etc and I think everyone should drive what makes them happy.

But, I will flatly not own/drive an auto. Full stop. This is non-negotiable.

I bought mine because it was pretty much the only option for a new 4x4 manual trans truck. However I do wish it was a 5 speed man meshed with the 4.0. I also get pissed every time I look down and I'm going 55 but its still over 2K RPMs. I drive like a grandpa and still get full size gas mileage out of my mid size truck. I am curious to see what happens with the 3.5. To answer your question, probably wouldn't buy an auto Taco.

Love my manual trans, but I'd definitely buy a taco with an auto trans before anything else "comparable" on the market.

Rock, you made me laugh too

Sure but it would need paddle shifter and tiptronic shifting.

    I have owned:

    1993 4Runner 3.0L 5 Speed - Would buy a standard again.
    1998 4Runner 3.4L 5 speed - Would buy standard again.
2001 Tacoma Automatic 3.4L - Would not buy automatic again.
    2005 4Runner V8 Automatic - Awesome combo.
2011 Tacoma 6 speed - Would not buy 6 speed again.
Current 2013 Automatic - Would but again in a heartbeat.

Ive also raced 4 Honda Civic's (5/6speeds) all were fantastic.
    A 2012 Jetta GLI 6speed - Fantastic.

BY A MILE the 6speed Tacoma tranny is the worst of the bunch.

Just bought a 2015 Tacoma sport last night. I test drove both but went auto, never thought I would see the day. To me it really seemed to shift oddly in the manual. This is coming from a guy who is now trying to sell is 5speed Manual BJ60 Landcruiser. It truthfully felt as though a computer was trying to assist me in my changes, now I'm a control freak when it comes to driving but if a car is trying to assist me while I'm driving it might as well just take over because its just gonna piss me off.

If you don't mind my asking....you drove both the auto and manual...was the manual a 2.7 or the 6 cyl?

Personally I like having my Taco in auto. And i would definitely buy another in a heart beat. Maybe even bump up to a full size but stick with auto.
ive owned both auto and MT for a car, and id go with MT over auto any day in a car.
Ive only had one truck be MT and ive just preferred auto for trucks.
i know its a weird way to look at it but personal preferrance i guess.

i don't think I'd ever buy a manual in a truck since most manual trucks shift like a dump truck from the 50s.

I was looking for a 2wd crew cab for SWMBO in '04. Toyota did not offer that, so I went with a new Nissan. That was a really good truck. When it got wrecked I replaced it with an Xterra, same year, engine and transmission. Then I bought another '04 2wd crew cab Nissan with a stick shift for myself. Guess you could say Toyota did itself out of three sales because it did not offer a stick shift in the 2wd truck. I would do the same today if I were in the market for another 2wd vehicle.
