    Channel locks are your friend, not familiar with the 1st gen so not sure they will get in there, but they work if you have room, I never bother with actual filter wrenches. Another thing you can do is pound a screw driver through the bottom, again only if you have room(this will be messy)... It should not be this tight in the first place, someone didn't lube the rubber o-ring when they put your last one on.... Make sure you rub used or new oil on the rubber o-ring on the new filter and only tighten it as much as your own hand will allow, you will avoid this B.S. next time.

    Pound a long screw driver through the old filter can. This will give you a good grip to twist it off.

    That thing with a strap on it is called a strap wrench.

    You just need to lube the o-ring or gasket on the filter, the filter will fill on it's own very quickly when you get oil pressure, some people will argue it needs oil so your engine isn't starved for a split second, but I've never bought into this.

    I just put some oil on the gasket, all the way around so its not dry and just hand tighten.

    Save yourself a step next time and buy the Toyota OEM filters...they come pre-lubed. You can get them by the case (10) on ebay for like $40 free shipping too!

    I could have swore I read on the first page of this thread that there is a mini meet in Idaho on the weekend of the 12th...Is the plan to go into the Gravelies from the Idaho side and come out south of Ennis?

    I was hoping early...say 10 or 11 ish? Its a 2 hour drive for me so I'd have to leave home by 8 or 9. I've never been on that southern stretch of road from Henry's Lake to the Gravelly road so I don't know how long it will take us + we still have a drive to get to camp etc....and that would be the main day to explore up there unless you were thinking of spending most of Sunday exploring too :notsure:

    ill have Eibach coils up front with Billy 5100s. Then in the back ill have Wheelers 5pk and Billy 5150s. I have some 1.5'' shackes too from toyo tech...but i dont think ill need them anymore after seeing how well the 5pks do on their own...plus shackles lifts a cheater ways :p lol
