Had my RF pad tucked up and 100% functional for going on 2 years now with no issues. You MIGHT just see the top edge of the hole in the cam, but no issues.

I run a cable or a chain through the bike frames and then lock the loop ends together with a padlock to one of the d-rings in the bed or to my bed rack gusset.

If you mean lock the pad to the truck? No real way to do it. Had my pad 2 years full time on the truck and never had an issue, nor has anyone I know.

Yea I was talking about the pad. Didn’t think it would really work. I ordered mine I don’t think it will get stolen but I heard people on here saying they had heard of it happening. Thanks!!

I basically assume anything not padlocked or welded to my truck is going to disappear and am pleasantly surprised every day it all stays put.

Aaah, thanks, didn’t even notice. I can test my bikes without the pad so I’ll do that. Good to know the tonneau closes, that’s my big concern as I don’t want to go back and forth installing/uninstalling.

How do you guys keep your tailgate from getting scratched up from the pad? My last truck is pretty beat up from dirt getting in between the pad and tailgate.

Honestly never had an issue with scratches. I used the Dakine pad on a black Tundra and never noticed any paint issues from the pad.

Most of these pads have a soft, felt-like material on the underside. Once they're strapped down, they don't really move a while lot either.

Mine would collect a bit of dust, but never any dirt and never any scratches.

Just got my Yakima Gatekeeper today. Easy install and took it right on the highway going 80+ no movement.

Take it off every so often and wash your truck seems to work. Beat the pad to get all the dirt off.

Here is the gatekeeper on the long bed with my Santa Cruz Hightower with the 27.5+ (2.8”) tires. A few inches to spare clearing the factory tonneau cover.FC241E8E-C759-4F4A-BB24-1B3848C00969.jpgFCAE55D7-D82F-4F58-AF21-1BA7A8420243.jpg E2FAECDB-7C49-4E18-822B-7859924DF402.jpg

Thanks for the Yakima Gatekeeper, been looking for days to see which Dakine fits and still provides access to the camera. This thread got me settled on the Yakima. Thank you!

Trying to decide on dakine dlx or Yakima gatekeeper. Where does the flap for camera/tailgate handle store on the Yakima? Does it fold over the top or under between the pad and tailgate. Hard to tell in the pics.
    Thanks!

Anyone know if the new fox camo small tailgate pad allows for the rear camera to work?

Do you still use the Yakima? I see a lot of reviews that the stitching and the velcro suck, have you had any issues with it? Do you use it a lot?

Thinking of going with the newer Race Face with the bigger cut out since a lot of people seem to like the older RF.

i got rid of my Yakima recently, and got the new raceface.

the velcro pop out window allows more precise placement for your backup camera. the only issue is that the 4 small panes that make up that pop out makes it either too big to mount above the camera, and too big to mount below the camera. I cut mine in half and put one half above, one half below. you will have to stitch where you cut (or use ducktape :) ).

Sucks doing that to a new pad, but it works great. You'll see in the comments on the RF site that lots of folks have done this.

I wasn't unhappy per se.... but with the window folded under to use the camera, it left a large part of the tailgate uncovered. Just liked the RF better...
